Windows 11 Compatibility Bug Fix — March 2025

What changed:

The latest update fixes a common 'flickering screen' problem on newer Windows 11 computers.
We have seen your comments and workarounds on the message boards and worked to resolve this issue for everyone.

We're so happy that these games continue to bring joy on hardware so far ahead of the time these stories were written!

Potential bug:

In some cases, drivers have been out of date. We recommend updating your drivers. You can find instructions for doing so here: https://www.herinteractive.com/2014/04/graphics-problems/

If this doesn't help, we suggest deleting the d3d9.dll file from the game folder, then launching the game again. You can find the game folder by clicking the gear icon on the game's page in your steam library and selecting manage > browse local files. This will put you in a position previous to this update. We apologize for any inconvenience the update may have caused.

Pins Disappeared

Just starting playing this game and got to the "stick pins in the map" part. But while I picked them up from the dresser they aren't showing up in my inventory, and just clicking the letters does nothing. The Her Interactive forums had 1 post where someone said that was an odd glitch, but that's all I've found. Any help?...

Stuck in caves - Glitch?

I followed the directions in the caves to an ice wall, but my fishhook won't break the ice. The fishhook worked earlier in the cave to break the ice but it won't now. I'm sure I followed the directions correctly. Is this a glitch in my game or do I need to complete another task before the ice will break for me?...

Does it work with Windows 11?

I’m new to steam, and was looking forward to playing Nancy Drew games. I ordered several, and downloaded Sea of Darkness. It flashes in and out, and I am not able to play. Is this going to happen with all the games? any ideas to make it work?

Stuck or bugged?

I just got this game, and I have been playing through it just fine till now. And now I seem to be stuck, even after reading a guide to figure out what I should be doing. It seems like I have done everything I can do, talked to everyone as much as I can that doesn’t require Gunnar being kicked out of the bar (Without having gotten his coaster) or having Soren leave his desk. And I don’t know what else I could do besides restart. Maybe someone can help?...
