What exactly did you expect? Get into native PCVR and your problem is solved.

I am using a Quest2 to access PCVR through Virtual Desktop and it's laggy asfk. I'll have a Quest3 next week and I'm wondering if that fixes the issue as the Quest2 is like 3yrs old now.
My PC meets the requirements on most VR games but it appears that most of these games were never optimised to play on the Quest2 but have recently made significant changes to meet the demands of the "75% of Steams VR" users on the MetaQuest platform.
Valve index is 5yrs old now and Steam had no interest in allowing competitors to advance quickly so it's required the ENTIRE community to get Steam to integrate the Quest into more games. Capitalism is great right?
And what did I expect?
'Forte Ind' VFX-1 VR Headset was released in 1992 and it is now *2024* so...
I EXPECTED MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE BY NOW!:steamsad:

I heard another discussion say that native air link works better. Not sure if that's true. I can't even get my game to work because of easy anti-cheat issues. I haven't had issues with any other steam game running on quest 2 though. I typically get 70-90fps without an issue.

Use steamlink, airlink is terrible
Doc Savage 29 Dec, 2024 @ 3:13pm
Azuma, your advice offers no clarity.... I'm 60+ and that sh1t is confusing asfk so... nope. Please explain why the Steam link has to be on my phone? I use a desktop PC for EVERYTHING unless I want to order Pizza, I don't use a phone. The Quest uses the PC to connect which I ASSUME is better than a phone and I could use a fiber-optic cable to connect directly right? How does the phone connect my headset to VR through the PC better than an app on the PC?
or......
Maybe the issue is with Steam and the simple fact that there are multiple brands of VR Headsets competing for server 'connectivity' using a variety of options, and Steam has to resolve each Brand so we can all play together???????:steamfacepalm:

Have you tried removing EVERYTHING from the Pavlov folder on PC? Maybe remove the EAC file from the PC and see if it asks to re-install. Then accept and try again.... might work. I'm finding out that Quest has an update issue rt nw and my 'location' does not provide me with the best ping in any game apparently. I am as far as you can get from the 'closest' servers Steam uses so.... yeah. I'm happy with the 70-90 fps but the latency can jump up severely due to the distance issue causing sudden drops in connection. That and Steam has about 6 different VR systems to resolve into one game experience for all of us eh! So yeah!
Take care and Happy New Year Everyone!:steamhappy:

Download/install the Steam Link app from the Meta store, when you run the app on your Q2 it will look to connect to your PC that has steam running, on the first connection you'll have to goto your PC to allow it when your Q2 attempts to connect through the app. Your Q2 will load up SteamVR and you can play Pavlov from there.

Okey... got it working but I'm still not clear as to WHY I can't just add 'Steam-Link' App to my PC from the Playstore. It's only optimized for phones? (wtf?)
Now I can confirm that the Steam-Link is no better for me than Virtual Desktop as they both have lag issues but with Virtual Desktop, the issues can be resolved with a chat with the Dev on Discord. Steam WILL NOT RESPOND to queries or even tickets related to connection issues. ie: SteamVR Home will no longer allow folks to join other room and they have not responded to our support requests or fixed the issue because, there are only a handful of VR users compared to the hundreds of thousands of KBM/consoles players. They may get around to resolving the problem but don't hold your breath eh!
Virtual Desktop just added more features and better connectivity AND 2 new servers so I think I'm going to stay with that.
Cheers for your help Azuma, I may use link when other options fail but where I'm located might be a large part of the problem. TTFN:steamthumbsup:

Do you have OpenXR as your runtime in SteamVR?

From your computer, open the SteamVR app.
Head to Settings.
Select Show in Advanced Settings.
Head to the Developer tab.
Click on "set steamvr as openxr runtime"

I'll try this out actually, been having the same issue myself :)
OP should try Pavlov Shack.

Stick to standalone buddy

Use a link cable and the Meta Quest Link app on PC. This lets you play using SteamVR directly. I was just using a quest 3 and it's working like it should, nice and smooth. Make sure you activate link in the app and allow non-meta inspected games in options.

This game still plays like sh"t on pcvr, just sayin'

In fact, since the UE5 upgrade the UX has gone downill. They had motion smoothing set up just right and decided to tear it all down, for example.
