Beans: Fair Trade Update

Hey friends! In the many years since Katie and I started this little goofy game in our bedroom at our apartment in San Diego, y'all have supported us through thick and thin. We haven't forgotten about the weird little coffee game that made us able to start Whitethorn Games and get to where we are now, so here's a totally free major update that adds, among other things, a total overhaul of new art throughout the entire game, a new boss fight, new level, tons of new chiptunes, more recipes, more jokes, and even more zany nonsense.

We hope you'll check it out - and yes, it's still just a touch buggy - the engine is from 2015 and it's discontinued, so please bear with us :D

We hope the dozens of hours of laughs for $6 is worth tolerating a few hiccups, and we hope you'll keep supporting the rest of our catalog.

Create, manage, and customize a coffee shop in this satirical tycoon game where you sell overpriced coffee, abuse employees, and watch your customers slowly lose their sanity. Beans: Fair Trade Edition features massive updates to the already impressive offering including new graphics, AI, and quality of life improvements. While Beans: Fair Trade Edition is less buggy than ever before, it still retains the rough charm that fans fondly remember.

Hey y'all!

Thanks for continuing to play, enjoy, rate, and share Beans. This was a bizarre little game my wife and I made as a lark during my tenure at Playstation.

Since then, we've moved back to Erie, PA, and now run a publisher, Whitethorn Digital. We are still in love with Beans, as it reminds us why we like games in the first place - weird, fun, kooky, strange things that people enjoy.

During GDC, Beans will run a pretty significant sale, and we'll distribute it to some influencers for funsies.

The plan is to re-release Beans: Fair Trade Edition later this year, automatically granting it to anyone who has already purchased Beans for free!

This version will feature controller support, an additional level or two, and more of the Beany zaniness you've come to expect.

Achievements Fix, New Office

Hey all,

Just pushed an achievements fix for the Windows version. Sorry for the slow updates. We've just moved into a new office and are trying to take off as a developer.

That's kept us a bit busy, so unfortunately Beans hasn't gotten the love it deserves. I hope the cheevo fix and minor bug fix will get some of you giving us a thumbs up on the reviews.

The Fall of Beansylvania... out Today!

Hey all!

We just launched Beans: The Fall of Beansylvania! It's a free expansion and extra level for Halloween. It includes one new Steam achievement!

We're excited for you to try to stop the evil Duke Covfefe of Bottum from destroying Beansylvania! Ruby will have to serve coffee (surprise surprise) to a village of undead caffeine zombies!

We've also included a new trailer and screenshots - we hope you'll check them out.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for being here and supporting Beans! We're so happy you've taken the time to play our little game.

We're excited to announce Beans: The Fall of Beansylvania!

Coming in late October, just in time for our favorite holiday, Beansylvania is a *FREE* update that will add an additional spoopy side quest where Ruby must defeat a mysterious undead long lost cousin, or uncle, or something. We're not sure.

In any case, there will be candy corn, pumpkin spice, bad costumes, and even worse puns. We hope you'll stay tuned and check it out!

Also, we wanted to remind you that the Screenshot function is now working! Hit F12 in game, and submit your shot to the community! We'd love to see your stores!

Beans 1.1 Update Live

Here are the first round of bugfixes! A few silent fixes will slide in between now and Sept 15, when 1.2 is due. Thanks for sticking with us! Look forward to free content on Halloween!

Bug Fixes

Corrected an issue with incorrect level warping.
Corrected some creative spelling of 'sandwich'.
Attempted to fix an appliance sticking issue in the research list on certain resolutions. May persist for some users. Will hopefully have a more comprehensive fix for this in 1.2
Made the Garden Repurposer actually make things.
Recliners and Sofas and Chairs Oh My! Now triggers properly.
Removed a broken recipe from the Downtown Level.
Fixed an issue where customers in the Downtown Level would not leave the restaurant.
Fixed a pathfinding issue with Rose in the last level.
Fixed a scrolling issue with the pause button.
Fixed an issue where customers could spend themselves into a soft lock in the downtown level.
Fixed a graphical error where mouse indicator blips would appear infinitely at a zero timescale.
Restauranteur achievement now triggers properly.
Garbage Day achievement should now trigger properly.
Invisible Drone issue preventing some players from completing the Mall
Level should now be resolved.
Fixed a text overflow issue in the downtown level.
Fixed a sprite stretching issue in the customer inspector.
Shortened overflowing decor descriptions in the University level.
Made the cell phone charger smaller than a grand piano.
Fixed an issue with cutscenes in the downtown level.
Removed a broken recipe from the University Level.
Fixed a pathfinding issue present in all levels.
Corrected outdated furniture descriptions.
Introduced, then fixed a bunch of bugs on the level select screen.
Steam Overlay and Screenshot features now functioning as intended.
Resolved certain crash-to-desktop scenarios on older hardware.
Removed gluten and GMO ingredients from many recipes.

Features

Added a level select feature from the main menu.
Added a much-requested pause feature.
Added sandbox mode from level select screen. Levels will last forever until you manually quit.
Probably added like, at least 30 new bugs.

Balance and Tuning

Clarified goals in final level.
Increased speed of final level slightly.
Made changes to the frequency with which customers lose their minds.

Miscellaneous

Decreased overall customer rage.
Corrected numerous typos and grammar errors.
Level select no longer mocks you.

Thanks again for all of your support over the last 2 years developing this game with my wife and best friend as a hobby. I've really been overwhelmed with how postitive everything has been.

Beans Launches Next Saturday!!!

It's time for a celebration! After nearly 2 years of work, Beans: The Coffee Shop Simulator will launch on Steam, Itch, Humble, and Gamejolt (link pending) on Saturday, July 1st!

Keys went out for the GAME and the SOUNDTRACK for those of you who got it. The compendium will be sent to you as a link to a PDF on launch day! Thanks again to our supporters for making this all possible!

You can follow us on Itch, wishlist us on Steam, or generally share our Steam page if you want to help! You can also tweet, facebook, pinstagram, or whatever, about all of your Beans experiences!
