A classic from my youth :D

Got this on release eight years go, refunded it... how much I have learned since then!

My mistake is there in other reviews mentioning the mechanics and the limitations of the day. The new visuals are so nice I just assumed this would play like a modern game in 2017 and was really let down.

Didn't review it, just thought, no this isn't for me.

Now, going again, I launched it in retro and full retro audio and played until I died. I then put on the new graphics and new music and played through from the beginning again, WOW!

Really makes you appreciate how clever the facelift is, whilst keeping true to what you know is underneath it all.

If I had played this in 89, I would have known all that and played on in 2017. But I wasn't lucky enough to come across it back in the day, so in 2017 I went in ignorant and didn't fully understand the offer here.

You live and you learn. I know far more about classic gaming now than I did then, even though I lived through the progression, it doesn't mean you're hip to everything.

So this is faithful and thus very tricky, but also extremely beautiful, in both modes. If you're reading a review now, then you're probably looking to get it in a sale, for which it is a safe bet, given the above imho
