Cannot launch Cold Waters
So, I've been playing Cold Waters for ages and it ran fine, but suddenly it seems to have stopped working.
There have been many threads describing this problem, but none offer a solution.

Basically, I launch the game and I get the circle icon that the game should be loading. If I click anywhere, it will tell me "not responding" etc. If I wait for about 20 minutes, the game eventually launches. The main menu runs normally, but when I click "campaign" or anything else, it will go into a huge load aswell.

I've tried a lot of things. Check and updating drivers, running from .exe, but none of the fixes have worked so far. The only thing I can vaguely connect it to is that I have been trying to connect to a wireless network. Around this time the game stopped working.

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I have also experienced lockups when my computer appears to lose the gateway. In my case, simply unplugging the network cable seems to work. This is strange, because there is no network functionality in the game.

Have the same issue, also created a thread about it and had a lengthy exchange with support. Nothing ever came from it and none of the solution worked so far.

From an email from a user who had this exact issue with 20 minute load times:

"Now it gets interesting: I installed a second copy of Windows on my system (Hardware is the same), with the same drivers and such, and CW apparently works fine.
The only difference is that my usual Windows is in German, this one is English. Can that have an impact?"

Are folks experiencing this issue using non-English versions of Windows?
Also is your keyboard language set to something other than the Windows default?

Switching my computer to another input language didn't do anything, and I'm developing on a non-english windows copy anyway. What happens if you turn off the intro video?

I am still intermittently getting this problem as well. Some days the game will run absolutely fine, some days it'll lock up when trying to start, with no discernable pattern.

Btw, does it ever write anything to the output log?

From Tyrranny forums, also Unity game:

'We've determined that there is a Unity issue that was fixed for Pillars of Eternity, but has since regressed to a non-working state in the newer version of Unity we're using for Tyranny. The problem is that the mechanism we're using to load character portrait art (and potentially a few other things) from disk can also be used to download files from servers. Because of this, Unity queries the Windows Proxy Settings for the currently logged-in user prior to deciding that it needs to load the file from disk instead. On some users' machines, the contents of the Windows Network Connections will include entries generated by third-party software such as LogMeIn Hamachi and VMWare. The Windows function that Unity uses to get the Proxy Settings for the user tends to hang for long periods of time if it encounters one of those third-party network connections. It's probably not able to get what it wants and just ends up waiting for a timeout. I suggest looking in Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center to see if there are any network connections added by third-party software. If there are, try disabling them to see if it fixes the problem. Please let us know what you find.'

It problem seems to have fixed itself, but I have been having trouble with getting my network running. I remember reading in one of the earlier threads that Hamachi may have something to do with it, and eventhough I have Hamachi removed from my PC, my network was somehow still trying to connect to it and regarding it as a "unknown network" with which I was unable to make an internet connection. Recently I removed it from there too, and that may have fixed the problem. I am no technical guy when it comes to computer, so I've no idea. I'm just really happy the game is running again.

Just wanted to say, disabling the other networks in the adapter settings has resolved the issue for me! :D

I'm having recurring problems with running Cold Waters, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to when the game will load and run and when it won't. It'll be fine for a couple of days and then refuse to play ball for a couple of days. I've tried validating the game files a number of times to no avail, I can only hope a future updates helps things. I love the game when it works! :steamhappy:
