edit : just went trough the whole thing , very impressed, some things went a lot deeper (no pun intended) then i was expecting. One thing i don't really get though is how there doesn't seem to be any friendly surface units in the whole game. I mean there's literally not even an icon for it on the campaign map? I guess the tradeoff is that nato has SOSUS and Russia has surface groups?
I think the idea is that NATO surface groups don't dare venture into the Norwegian sea because they would be too vulnerable. The Warsaw Pact has too many assets from surface groups, subs and attack bombers that could strike at the NATO carrier groups. So the NATO surface groups stay in the Atlantic to protect the supply convoys. I do remember in RSR, that sometimes you would get an event about how Bear bombers wrecked a NATO carrier group. And of course, the emphasis of the game is on your sub trying to stop the Warsaw Pact from breaking through the SOSUS line. NATO's only hope of stopping the Warsaw Pact's ground advance is to get supplies and reinforcements from America to Europe ASAP.
Yeah there's definitely one of those newspapers that says something like "carrier sunk , nato rethinks viability of carrier warfare" or something like that in one of the trailers. But yeah you make a great point . Still kinda weird to not have any (if i understand the manual correctly anyway). That also makes me wonder how a Russian campaign will even work? But i guess that's all questions for later ^^. Maybe future campaigns will be on a more global scale.
A quick question: is it possible to play the game with a mouse only? In other words, do you absolutely require a keyboard AND mouse to play the game? The reason I ask is that because of my particular physical gaming set-up, I like to play just with mouse clicks, instead of hitting keys.
So; for every possible key press, is there an icon / button to click that can perform the same function?
Thanks.
PS great to see an Aussie developer making these kinds of games, I hope our govt. does more to support game dev in this country.
