Multiplayer Thread
Jolly Cooperation!
Sundered can now be played in local multiplayer with up to 4 players!

All you need is controller(s)! It is plug and play, but you can always modify who uses which controller/keyboard at anytime inside the Multiplayer menu in:
Pause Screen>Options>Multiplayer.

I hear you asking:

Med! Why no online multiplayer?

In full disclosure, the answer is unfortunate, but simple: it is a complex addition that would require many overhauls & a lot more time...

...luckily, there is a solution!

How to setup online local-multiplayer
  1. Go to Parsec's website[ui.parsecgaming.com].
  2. Make a user.
  3. Download the client.
  4. Go back to the website, click the Gear on the top-right and go to the Settings.
  5. Click Hosting.
  6. Click Enable Hosting.
  7. Make your friends do step 1-2-3, then add your friend's user.
  8. Go in friendlist and select your friend.
  9. Check "Can ask to connect" & "can control: controllers".
  10. Create a Party.
  11. Make your friends join the Party.
  12. Profit.
Don't know Parsec? Parsec[parsecgaming.com] is a software that permits you to play local-only games... online!

There are tutorials online & help/support on their website/discord, if you need extra information. I highly recommend checking them out, they are awesome people!

If you are encountering any issues regarding the multiplayer or have questions, please let us know on this thread!

Cheers!

Here is a few answers for (potentially) Frequently Asked Questions:
  • Rebindings only affect the first controllers.
  • You cannot use multiple keyboards or setup two users using the same keyboard.
  • We are not sponsored nor developers of Parsec, but we do love their software quite a bit!
I will keep this updated as the thread goes on.

If you are trying to setup the online portion, you might need to enable controller control in your friend's settings. Just go in Friends, click your friend and check "Can ask to connect" & "can control controllers" (I forgot that part, thanks for bringing it up! I updated the post)

If you are trying to play locally, it is plug & play. Just do any imput with the controller plugged in and it should create an additional player.

Are there plans to add Rebinding for controllers after first player?
I bought the game for a friend and I'm second player in their game, discovered I can't rebind my heavy attack and I really can't get a hang of the non-bound version.
It's a little bit disheartening to be honest, because I absolutely freaking love the heavy attacks.

We don't intend to add custom rebinding per player in the short term, but we will change it so rebinding applies to every player. However this patch will only be live after the holidays.

This might be a bug or something idk but online when we connect with parsec the mutliplayer tab dosen't allow us to apply! Is it a from us or is it from the game? We choose the keyboard for player one keyboard (friend) and player 2 on controller (me) does the person who is connecting
to the other person need to be on controller specificlally as player 1 or the other way around?

Are you sure the controller is enabled? (Friendlist>Friend's user>Permissions>%User% can control: controller ☑)

If so, can you connect it to P1 and move the menu around?

The Apply button is grayed out due to having no (or not enough) controller for the chosen setup. This would mean that in your setup the controller might not be recognised.

Ok thanks if that isn't working then i really do not know what the problem might be

If you are using a PS3 controller, this could also be one of the reasons.. as they are not native to Windows. You would require an additional software to make your computer recognise the controller.

I'd say there's no need for additional software. You can always enable Steam controller emulation for generic controllers, which will already make pretty much any joystick compatible with X-input on its own. If using Parsec, it'd need to be like this: before launching the game, the person should join the Parsec session, hit anything in the joystick (for the driver to be installed on the host's machine, then go to Steam Settings -> Controller tab, and enable the emulation. Then launch the game!

Sadly, no. It would take us way too much ressource and time to integrate online multiplayer, and our system would need to be overhauled from scratch...meaning basically redoing almost the entier game... sorry!

Is there some discord channel regarding the Sundered or the multiplayer games going on through Parsec?
Rhinehart 16 May, 2020 @ 11:05am
I know this thread's a bit old, but I wanna point out to the developer that GGPO (very good rollback netcode) is free and they give you the resources to learn how to use it in your game. A game like this should support online multiplayer without requiring Parsec or Steam's remote play feature, especially in light of recent events. Iunno if my advice is two years too late or not, but on the off chance you still care, I wanna point it out.
