Sundered: Eldritch Edition
Normal horde vs endless horde
I understand that normal horde are (kind of) time based and they end when either a timeout passes or you kill 20 enemies... Endless hordes are area based and they end only when leaving the horde area.

Now, when exploring new areas, is there a way to differenciate the two other than dying? A visual or auditive cue? Because normal horde you usually want to fight as it's the quickest way to end it. Endless horde you want to flight (unless strong enough to farm it)...

I'm asking this question because whenever I hear that dreadful gong (congrats by the way, the gong really makes me feel dread, but not always in a good way). I can never know what kind of horde it is... so my usual habit is fight it out (also because that's how you get most of the experience I believe). And so when I die, I can almost never be sure if I should've fled instead...

(also endless hordes puts glass cannon builds at a major disadvantage).

That's an issue we are working on. We should shortly push a patch that will have a big nice flashy red header to announce challenge areas with endless hordes. I don't know if it has been implemented yet, but we're also planning on giving these sections a red color in the map.

is that patch live now or? I was exploring the second area (the one to the left) and got a nice big red flashy header when I ran into an endless horde area. Are you guys making it even MORE flashy?
It might be live then. When I left work it hadn't been pushed yet :p
cool! thx for the reply
It's live. Just visited an endless horde to confirm!
I think you need to telegraph the endlessness of the encounter better. I just spent 10 minutes fighting a horde, wondering wtf was going on, only to finally come to Steam and search the forums to find out.

Or, better yet, don't implement endless hordes? It feels pointless and punishing to me. Just make it 50 enemies (or 100) instead, so that people who aren't killed by them at least don't have to endure the tedium of endlessness.

Edit: Figured out later this was probably a bug. Rarely, you have an unending horde outside of the red "endless horde" areas.
