Surprising how much you can do with so little
So long story short, after being involved with the early development of Ubermosh, I had a bit of a tiff w/ Walter concerning the lack of volume sliders. That being water under the bridge now, I decided to check out the expansion of the game into a bona fide series, which was something I thought impossible with such a small concept. Black, although initially viewed as merely a difficuly increase, felt like it had enoughtuning of the AI (including the creation of single shot grunts as the most annoying enemy in the game) that it desreved to be a sequel, and may well be my favourite moving forwards.

However, Volume 3 was something of an oddity. Whilst the adition of enemies meant I had to dodge unexplained pink particles and wonder waht those blue guys were going to fire should I ever give them time to do so, it was the simple addition of wrapping to imply an infinite arena which really opened the game up. Whilst I can understand the decision to remove the terrain in order to facilitate the illusion and give Walter an excuse to play around more with AI behaviour, I personally can't help but wonder how interesting it would be to see the same idea used with the obstacles (which i call boulders) still in the map. Perhaps, considering the next game in the series has been in the works for a few months, it's something we may see around the corner, or maybe we're going to see something even more interesting. As much as some people have sated Swarm Riders, I thought it was an interesting idea, and as a free game was quite a nice way to reward the community which has formed around this little series.

tl;dr - I might have to mute the game and stick on Xanopticon, but i've learnt to enjoy it, and I feel like a bit of a mug for getting so worked up back in 2015. Live and learn.
