SCUM
I think i'll play scum
did the update, fixed the frequent corrupt disk error updated again and by then was watching a movie. Launch today and it hotfix. Should we just like, not bother launching for at least 5 days after update. There is a hotfix within 24 hours every time. The patching is so slow the way unreal games unpack and repack full pak files for nearly the whole game or a 15mb hotfix, it takes like over an hour, IF it doesnt fail.

An hour is a bit extreme. Usually a hotfix takes like 3 to 5-6 minutes on my old system with all the processing.
Do you have enough free space left on your drive, at least of game size?

Might be worth looking into that disk, regular corruption and an hour for a max 5-20 minute process.

I spent a maximum of 15 minutes, to be honest I didn't even notice, I just pressed and went to make tea, when I returned everything was ready. I use SSD \ R7 5700X

its probably what it is. Thou I found it strange its only this game that throws the disk read error etc. Using a guide I found on youtube works. But on larger updates I just do full reinstall as its faster.

for m2 nvme it takes around 15 20 minutes usually
better install on M2 on SSD if you have option
on HDD probably it would take much more time to update, but also the performance is better on M2 or SSD for all games

I would think modern games (UE5) are unplayable on a HDD. I know Scum is UE4, but still. Used only SSD for many years now. Only ones I know who still use HDD, use them for storage and not gaming. It probably is caused by using a HDD, on an old rig though.

Running UE5 from a traditional Hard Disk Drive (HDD) will lead to significant performance issues like stuttering, frame drops, missing assets, and dramatically slower build times. For optimal performance, keep your operating system, the UE5 engine, and your current project files on an SSD
