Crashing when playing trough STEAM
I was playing normaly for some time. Yesterday, the game started crashing when the map opens. It shows the map and crash. The weird thing is that it works when I open the game trough the game executable file.
I'm using Linux Mint. I created a "steam_appid.txt" file with the game ID inside game's folder, and execute the game through terminal. It doesn't crash. But I don't think the cloud save works.

My specs:
OS: Linux Mint 20.2
KERNEL: 5.13.0-27-generic
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700HQ @ 2.80GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
GPU DRIVER: NVIDIA 510.47.03
RAM: 32 GB
It's a notebook with hybrid graphics, but I set nvidia as main, since I use a monitor.

... good idea, now head over to the Bugreport-subforum, check out the stick thread and send the devs what they need to help you :)

Same here:

Linux 5.13.0-30-generic x86_64
NVIDIA-SMI 470.103.01
Steam package versions: 1646446125

I haven't played since early Jan 2022. It downloaded a Railway Empire update just now. The opening menu start fine, but when trying to enter the game, either by restoring a save, or starting a new scenario... instant crash.

Where do the log files get written to?

this happens after the intro plays, before the main menu shows

Hi,
How do you get the correct appID?

Hi,
How do you get the correct appID?

You can get it in the game link:

....steampowered.com/app/503940/Railway_Empire/

its 503940

Apparently the is an answer in "the sticky thread". I confess I think I found that answer before and concluded the solution was way too complicated for me to bother at the time.

Now I'm wondering what sticky thread and where. The sticky at the top here is many, many pages long. What am I expected to do to make this run again? Help? Thx.

Ok. Fine. I might have worked it out...

1) Find the installation files for the game. It will depend on where your steam library lives. Mine was at:

/media/rover/Games/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Railway\ Empire

But yours will certainly be different. I'm not sure how you find it. I just knew that /media/rover was a good place to start looking because I have all my steam games on a dedicated mounted ssd.

2) Create a file in that directory called "steam_appid.txt" (eg `touch steam_appid.txt`)

3) Put the number "503940" into the file (eg: `echo "503940" > steam_appid.txt`)

4) Run the game from the command line: `./RailwayEmpire`

5) Play the game and quit

6) Kill the game manually via CTRL-Z

I'd like to say that, as a dedicated fan, how unvalued I feel to have to work this out for myself and put up with it for ongoing perpetuity. Knee-jerk post. Not sure if it will save and if other quirks will popup yet.

Actually CTRL-Z will just suspend the game. CTRL-C doesn't kill it. So after CTRL-Z suspends it, I have to `ps` for the process id and `kill -9` it.

Such a nice user experience.

YYYYAAAAAAYYYYY!!!

It's working again.
Could be the recent patch update.
Could be my migration to ubuntu 22.04.
Could be steam.
Whichever.

I'm happy its working again (without all that scripting and phaffing around).

A hearty thanks to whoever deserves it.
