That's the same for almost every type of military equipment. You use what you still have even if it's no longer in production. When it's all used up you pray the production of the more modern equipment could catch up to your needs by that point.
All military munitions have a "shelf" life, and most munitions storage locations will Push forward any ammo that's anywhere near expiry.
If this game is even anywhere close to modelling that effect and what "really was" stocked at the various locations, kept maintained, then you indeed would see all the older stock Torpedo's still sitting there.
It isn't just the subs that would be "restocking" at these locations, the schnell boats and any other ships that patrolled near the coasts would also stop or have them brought out to there ships.
Some of the UBoat ports did have difficulty getting stock, as the war progressed and Allied bombing increased. Many of the ammo trains or cargo ships were stopped or disrupted from "normal" deliveries.
- So, what you have at that port is what you get, till additional supplies are "moved forward" from deeper supply storage locations.
- Yes, using the "load what you want and wait for newer stock" does work.
- But the UBoat captain has orders and a timeline to complete these. Some of the missions are or have specific times that he needs to be at any one location or another.
So "waiting" for the best torps is not always an option.
Just saying.
If I can completely avoid this realism by just waiting, and if that is intended, then why not at least give me the option to skip time for however long I want so I don't have to buy a free torpedo every time to skip another 8 hours?
I've played the game for like 60 hours now and I never felt any disadvantage of waiting over and over again to only get the torpedo type I want.
At the very least there should be a realism setting to toggle unlimited supply on or off.
If you don't like exploiting the game then don't do it. For everything else you'll most likely find a mod.
So I share my feedback so it might just get changed at some point and then I keep doing what I've been doing before.
If the devs see it that way they will never change the current system.
My tip is if you want the newest torpedos: Load only the newest torps, leave port, go in a zone where you have full TC, then return to port and load newest torpedos, the stock will be refilled. That's a design workaround, not a feature.
Also, loading torps in your sub will take time, check the stocks again after time has elapsed, chance is that new torps are available (like other goods to buy like explosives.)
