If yes, try fast-15 method. While you are at right angle to the target course, you fire your torpedo when the enemy bearing is 15 degrees. This will result in 0 degree gyro and 90 degree hit angle.
I dont play with torpedo previews btw. After I enter TDC inputs (through speech bubbles), I finally go to TDC myself and check the gyro angle and impact angle. If gyro angle is greater than 15 degrees and if the hit angle is too far from the right angle, I reposition myself .
The verbal command you give (speech bubbles) need to be entered into TDC, the torpedo data computer. It is this computer that sets the gyro angle for the torpedo. You should get one of your officers to TDC so that he can enter your verbal commands there. Otherwise you will give these commands but noone will enter them to TDC. This is the firs step.
When you are at your UZO or periscope view, you will see on the left side on the screen some icons. The second one from the top is TDC. You will see the gyro angle there on one of the dials (and the newer TDC of Type VIII-C also displays the impact angle). You don't need to use the TDC yourself, you can continue to give verbal commands (speech bubbles) and your officer will fill in the data in TDC. I only use it to see the gyro and impact angle of the current solution. Ideally you want 0 degree gyro (so torpedo does not make any turn) and 90 degree hit angle (so that it hits the target at right angle). This is the ideal setup and will result in most damage + the lowest rate of duds.
