Let me set the scene: I saw screenshots. I saw trailers. I saw giant monsters in a frozen wasteland and thought, “Yes. I am ready to scale god-sized beasts, feel small and heroic, and maybe cry a little.” What I got was an accidental comedy about a freezing, fumbling acrobat with the upper body strength of a wet noodle and the survival instincts of a dropped burrito. Praey for the Gods is what happens when someone says “Let’s make our own Shadow of the Colossus,” but forgets to bring polish, pacing, or functioning physics to the party. The climbing system—aka the entire point of the game—feels like trying to do parkour on a greased Slip ’N Slide during an earthquake. You grab on, start climbing, and suddenly your character is breakdancing on the boss’s clavicle while your stamina drains like it owes someone money. Half the time you fall off because of a glitch. The other half, it’s because you got sneezed off by a gust of wind and couldn’t even rage-quit properly thanks to the janky menu. And then—because someone out there hates joy—they slapped on a survival system. Hunger. Cold. Sleep. Inventory micromanagement. I signed up to fight gods, not manage my character’s caloric intake. I spent more time foraging for snacks than fighting anything. It’s like trying to slay dragons with a FitBit constantly reminding you to hydrate. The bosses? Occasionally cool-looking, but they fight back with terrible camera angles and unpredictable bugs more than with actual challenge. One launched me 300 feet into the sky. Another just sort of collapsed mid-fight like it forgot to finish its animation. I didn’t feel victorious—I felt like tech support.

It’s got ambition. I’ll give it that. The world wants to be mysterious and epic. The music tries. The snow is... snowy. But everything else feels like it’s held together with duct tape and half-hearted optimism.

Good title. No hand holding, lets you choose how to play at start ( 4 dif modes and 3 realism settings), and runs well. NO unreal engine 5 BS.

There seems to be a lot of potential to this game, but I cannot recommend it. I am very happy I did not pay for the game (got it as part of a bundle). The music is really great. Some of the boss fights have some cool mechanics and details. They tie a lot of tips into the world and the lore, which I think is well done. But there are so many problems... I wanted to explore the world, but there is very little reason to do so. And the world is huge, but you are often stuck in water or snow banks which make you move even more slowly. I wish there was a waypoint system - I probably would have explored every inch if there was.

The game is very simple. Go to the location, fight the boss. There is a crafting aspect, but it's very half-baked and underwhelming and your inventory is so small that you cannot hardly gather enough materials to matter. There is some gear progression, but it isn't meaningful or interesting. I played on story mode, so I didn't need to worry about food or cold most of the time, and I am glad, because the few times it was a factor, it was just annoying. The same goes for the weapons and tools breaking. There is no particular reason why they do except to keep the gaming feeling brutal (despite it being easy and simple). The boss fights have a few interesting details, but once you start climbing them, you just crawl around and hold on while it wiggles. There are very few things to think about other than looking for the bells and hold right click to hold on. It's very disappointing. Unfortunately, this got so extreme that I played until the end boss and then did not finish. They set up the end scene to be epic and really dramatic, but the build up killed my hype. It was not interesting or fun. It felt like I was suddenly playing Getting Over It. I'm not solving puzzles. I am not fighting anything. I am not even using my brain. I am just crawling around, then shooting something so that I can continue crawling around.

Unfortunately, the word that sums up the game for me is: tedious.
