Devs, anyone: questions on fleet size

i'm kinda confused about this.

1. i'm a commander and it says fleet size had to be +4 to get that promotion. well, i don't remember doing anything to get a fleet size of 4. in fact, that's the gist of my confusion. i don't know how (but that later). anyway, did i start out with a fleet size of 4?

2. what is fleet size? how do i see it? when i look at the shipwright under Hire Escorts it says 0/4. i thought i was already at 4 to be able to buy the first promotion. how do i see my current fleet size? is that 0/4 it? i don't get it as i had to have +4 fleet size to get commander so i think it should say 4/8 or something like that. btw, i have not hired any escorts. help?

3. and how do i increase fleet size? do i have to hire escorts to do so? how come? i don't really want to drag along another ship or 2 while i'm sailing around. is that the only way to get the next promotion? i need to hire escorts that total 4 so that 0/4 says 4/4?

ANY help would help!

let me add that i started over after the latest patch but i remember in my last game i upgraded my fort to level 2 and never hired any escorts. meaning, a requirement for level 2 fort is Commadore and a requirement for Commadore is +4 to fleet size. so how did fleet size increase without hiring anyone? does it come with larger ships? i don't see it in the ship's stats when purchasing. this is bugging me so clarification on this would REALLY be appreciated.

Dead game, dead development crew. Praxia entertainment is just one big steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Maybe they'll respond to my countless emails of "can we mod the game?" and hopefully we can get some modding support to make the game at least fun to play for more than 30 minutes lol. Probably going to get banned from this discussion but oh well.

Got an email beacuse it's on sale and was on my wish list, was about to buy it... glad I checked the forums first!

Sounds like it has great potential but a typical indie game that started out with grand ambitions and then abandoned before it was truly finished.

I don't buy into early access or anything like that (this might not technically be, but doesn't sound very well finished) because too many of them end up abandoned. Unless the devs show some sign of commitment I won't be parting with my money, cheap or not!
