Steep
Not launching - Black screen - No sound
When I try and launch the game I get nothing, just a blank black screen with no sound.

Ubisoft Connect seems to open fine.

The monitor seems to almost switch display mode / settings, as it flickers and comes back up with HDMI1 in the top left (as if it has just detected a new display input).

Things I've tried so far:
- Uninstalling and re-installing the game
- Re-installing / Repairing support applications in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steep\Support\Software
- Updating Windows
- Updating Nvidia drivers
- Installing and running everything as administrator
- Deleting C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\STEEP\Default
- Updating C:\Users\<username>\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\STEEP\Default/STEEP.ini WindowMode=2 to WindowMode=1

Worth noting it works fine on my ROG Ally X without having to do any of the above (worked out the box). That is also running Windows 11 (specs can be found online).

Hi Zygopleural,

Apologies for the late response. I am also sorry to hear that you are getting black screen when launching Steep.

If you are still experiencing this issue, can you please try the following:

- General PC troubleshooting[ubi.li]
- Clear Ubisoft Connect cache[ubi.li]
- Clear Steam cache[ubi.li]
- Launch the game in Windows compatibility mode[ubi.li]
- Perform a SFC scan[ubi.li]
- Ensure that the game is installed on the same drive as Ubisoft Connect and Steam

Also as your processor uses multiple cores, this can sometimes lead to difficulties in older games. Therefore, you could try to disable unneeded processor cores for testing purposes.

To try this please do the following:

- When you launch the game, press the key combination "ALT+TAB".
- Open the Task Manager
- Click on the "Details" tab and check to see if you can find the process of your game
- Right-click on the process of the game if it's available and select the "Affinity" option
- Please make sure that you uncheck all the boxes except "CPU 0".
- Go back to the game.
