Game crashes instantly? Try this
1) Missing Windows Media Player
Many Capcom game's pre-rendered movies rely on a video codec that's part of the Windows Media Player. Some versions of Windows distributed in Europe unfortunately doesn't have WMP installed. You can install WMP separately by following the link below.

Windows 7 SP1 users:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16546

Windows 8 users:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30685

Windows 8.1 users:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40744

2) Refresh DirectX9 runtime
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

Even if you have DX9 installed, you may be missing or have some out of date/incompatible DLLs that the game use. Running this installer refreshes/updates DirectX 9 to whatever latest version.

I tried it and it didn't solve my problem. I'm not from Europe, so maybe that's the reason I wasn't even able to download the first files.

Those are the specifications of my notebook:

Windows 8.1 64bits
Intel Core i5-3230M
CPU @ 2.60GHz
8GB RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4000

SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE. ive been trying to get this to work for the past 3 days. i cant get it to the main menu. i get to where the intro should be and then just a black screen. no error messages, no crash, just a black screen. ive tried downloading that media pack thing about 10 times for every single download and none of them work. i actually have windows 8.1 (im pretty sure that's my main problem.) ive tried switching it to compatibility mode, ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling and verifying the files multiple times now. nothing has made any difference thus far. im desperate here. someone please help me :'(

hello friend had the same problem as yours, installed these codecs "http://www.free-codecs.com/xp_codec_pack_download.htm" and it worked for me, and my system windows 7 64 bits

Tried it and it didn't work. Probably because my Windows is 8.1.

My build

WIndows 10

AMD 8370 8-core @4.2ghz

16g (2x8) g.skill titan ripjaw ram 2400mhz stock (not overclocked)

GTX 970 4G Zotac Model GPU

I have spent the past 10+ hours trying to get this to work, all my other steam games work but this one. All my other games work period except for this one. It's really agitating.

I am having this problem. The suggested fix did not work for me. It was working fine until the 1.05 patch!

I solved this problem by running Command Prompt as administrator and using the command "sfc /scannow" and then restarting my computer. Turned out DSOUND.dll was corrupted somehow -- I was able to figure that out because an error message popped up when I tried to run the executable by hand instead of running it via Steam.
