Do claims keep taking rent money/gold from you even when arent mining there anymore?

I just rented the river town mine after being in old arnolds for a while, keep in mind i never fully bought old arnolds, just rented it. i dont really know how the whole renting system works in this game when it comes to the claims, it sorta confuses me.

It counts the dirt which you run through the washpland on the specific claim.
If you mine on Nighthawk then you don't pay rent for Arnold.
