I'll think about doing this, it's a good deal of work but I guess it would make the game more playable on tablets when a keyboard isn't so easy to use.
BTW Loving the game. So often with retro titles I find myself disappointed once I sample the actual gameplay. They often seem to do a better job of recreating the issues & problems the original may have had as a result of hardware limitations of the time than of translating the core experience to a modern system. Bad Caterpillar plays as smoothly as one could hope.
I didn't try and recreate the old game, I just took the basic idea of it and tried to expand upon it and really dial it up. If you play them back to back, you'll find that Bad Caterpillar may have a similar concept but it plays a lot differently. It's a worthwhile game that stands on its own I think.
Already did, yesterday. I'll update it when I've played more but wanted to leave a positive review as soon as I realised I was really going to like it
Exactly. You take the central idea & remould it, rather than cloning the original warts & all.
I don't have mouse menu controls in any of my games to date but maybe I should. It is on my radar so maybe.
Bad Caterpillar uses the Xbox controller standard (which many, many games do) for it's gamepad/joystick support (maybe there is a way to use a driver that works with that instead of what it is using now???). This controller is obviously not using that standard, but I'm finding it difficult to get more info when I don't have the controller itself.
I also +1 to adding mouse menu controls. NOt a big deal because I use a desktop, but it is pretty standard in games that use mostly mouse controls like point and click adventures and other shooters. Haven't tried to play this with a gamepad since the mouse seems more intuitive fro a game where you want to move the aim that fast like a Breakout sort of game needs it.
We're very deep in development of our next game, Platinum Kill, at the moment. I will keep that mouse menu idea in mind if/when i get back to doing anything with Bad Caterpillar.
