Shift or space. But sometimes it doesn't work. I can't upgrade my character at the moment.

It's a strange upgrade system. It seems finding objects allows you to upgrade a category in melee or firearms by pressing shift. Clicking on a category allows you to assign perks to unlock something. I think the perk points unlock as you play.

This needs to be fixed ASAP. Pretty much game breaking at the moment

Some players can't use tab for the perk menu.
It's like this since two years and devs don't care and never made something about that.
