As for my main ship, i'll look into that as well, it's no biggie to repair.
Just going to get to work on subspace distortion issue. it can really erode the hull integrity even with mechanics at 200%.
It has been challenging but a worthy one i like. for a moment it was going their way but i have since turned the tables. tip to self: don't bring chainguns into rifts, they are useless or take forever to take targets out.
More learning and i've figured out the upgrades need to work in tandem with each other to build up the distortion resistance, so drop your current upgrades for your ships or build a new one and slot these reward upgrades in place. at some point you need to work out when to move up from the lower threat level missions into the bigger leagues, otherwise you might end up stuck there, especially if you have no scientist captain to give double the rewards per mission.
Edit: Completed it, the core is mine. the regeneration on the summoner was so strong on that ship i literally devoured it a piece at a time once the hull pieces melted under sustained fire until there was nothing but debris. A real bad way to go and a rotten way to go as well. Took some real effort to avoid being killed while going out to kill it. The hostile carrier and fighters tipped the balance throughout the battle. That Lasted about 3 hours.
Not done learning the mechanics, not by a long shot.
the various objects provide their own rift data. completing that scientist evac mission can also provide a bonus, i got a free officer that was xsotan hunter and commodore secondary at tier 3 in addition to 15 rift research. you need enough cargo space to collect it, so keep the cargo bay clear if you plan on running a number of rift missions farming that data.
the mission rewards, especially when you can get into the gold rarity subsystems combine very nicely with others, the rewards are very strong. so start off with a few blue ones and make the jump to gold at least the next difficulty mission offering gold /gold reward subsystems and it snowballs from there.
