Engineer also calls Pyro: "Boy" in a line.
But ultimately, not matter how much proof for one answer or the other someone has, we will never know unless Valve says so.
Personally, I believe pyro is male, as many of his traits point in that direction. But it's ultimately up to personal opinion, as there is no real evidence to back up him being male or female.

If you ask me it should be kept that way. It's like one of the big things that keep this character so interesting (even if I hate their playstyle to my core) aside from the fact that they see the world and its surroundings entirely differently and believes fire is the solution to everything.
Though we do know the TFC Pyro is a women so take that as a constellation prize I guess lol
