Problem, can't launch the game.
Hey, uh, okay so i've bought this game yesterday, and i can't seem to launch it.

Whenever i try, it's either running in the background (that i've seemed to somewhat fix by launching the game as always administrator), or failed to authenticate with steam.

I'm running it on a Lenovo Ideapad,
Windows 8.1 69 bits,
Intel Core i7-4710MQ 2.50 GHz,
4GB of RAM,
DirectX 11,
and a Intel HD Graphics 4600.

This has been really bugging me, and i'm sadly on the verge of refunding, even if this game seems really cool. :v

I hope y'all will be able to help me

I'm not sure what would cause it to run in the background. However, it will fail to authenticate if Steam is not running and/or any files have been modified.

Please let me know what error code appears with the failed to authenticate message (near the bottom). That code should help me figure out what the specific issue is. Otherwise, you can try re-installing Melon Simulator (maybe one of the files became corrupt during the download). Sorry for the inconvenience.

The error code stated is "Error Code 1"

I do remember that when i reinstall the game -and not verify the integrity of the game- (which i have both done many times), there's a "steam_appid.txt" that disappears whenever i launch the game for the first time.

I think it's important to note that when i verify the integrity of the files after a first launch, it says that there're two files missing, but that it doesn't put back the steam_appid.txt

It's okay, i appreciate how you are invested in this community, and are trying to help fixing things.

Hope to hear back from you soon, see ya.

That steam_appid.txt file should not be there and will cause that error. That file is for development purposes and should have been removed before the build was published.

I just checked the latest build (1.6.6p3) and it does not include that file. It's possible that Steam is not giving you the latest update for some reason. You can check what version you're running by pressing T and then typing /version and pressing enter (the error may cover the input field but the version will popup once you press enter).

If the version is incorrect, sometimes restarting Steam will trigger the update and/or make sure updates are not disabled for Melon Simulator by right clicking on Melon Simulator in your Steam library > properties > updates > automatic updates. As a last resort you can try deleting the steam_appid.txt file before starting the game and see what happens.

I'd like to test your theories, but I can't seem to get it to not run in the background anymore, and even after reinstalling the game, the steam_appid.txt isn't there anymore, so idrk what to do..

I'm sorry about all the inconveniences, I'm sure you're really busy ;-;

But this is really, like, random, idk
Like it's random, the file might be there, but maybe not, and it may run in the background, but maybe not

aaaa

idk

halp me :c

No worries, I just want to help you resolve this. Can you explain a bit more about what you mean by it's running in the background? Does the icon appear on your taskbar but the window just doesn't show up?

You can force Melon Simulator to launch fullscreen by right clicking on Melon Simulator in your Steam library > properties > set launch options > -screen-fullscreen1

I mean that like, when i launch the game, it does show in the task bar for like 5 seconds, and then it disappears, but i still have the music (which is incredible btw)

When i check the task monitor, i can see the game, running as a background task, taking full ram power 'n' all
and i can't interact with it except in the task monitor

It sounds like it could be a compatibility issue with Windows 8 and/or a driver, I will look into this further today. Did setting the launch options to fullscreen make a difference?

Okay, now the game does not run in the background anymore, but i still have the Steam authentification problem tho, sadly

But it's okay, we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel lol

Thanks alot already aha

So i still tried to relaunch Steam two times, and to verifiy the integrity of the files, but it still didn't do anything for the authentification problem

I will look into it more tonight. Off hand I would make sure Steam is running, there is no steam_appid.txt file in the installation folder, and maybe try running it as an administrator as well.

Yeah thanks alot
But like you can do it tmrw, yk that right ?
Y'don't need to do it overnight

As for your potential solutions, i can't launch the game without steam being on lol, uuh i can't find the steam_appid.txt. file in the installation folder, and i tried to run it as an administrator too :c

And reinstalling the game doesn't make the steam_appid come back
:oof:

Thanks for the help again my man, you're a cool dude :cozyspaceengineersb:

I ran a few tests yesterday but I'm still looking into it. Can you send me the output log? You should be able to find it at C:\Users\User\AppData\LocalLow\Delirious _ Co_\Melon Simulator (just replace "User" with your Windows account name).
