I know we have stats, but I have absolutely no clue how to view the current totals in game.

When you're traveling, click on the button next to your character portrait to reveal your Upper-Deck Crewmen. Your attributes are displayed beneath each crewman's portrait.

Aaaah. Okay. I leave that closed so often because it occupies so much of the screen.

All of mine seem to say +1 - is that normal? I would have expected more variation there, particularly in light of the background events and stuff.

The + is the bonus from (top?) crew.

Your starting Upper-Deck Crew only grant +1 bonuses, but they can be replaced with much better crewmen if you advertise in certain cities or begin certain quests. The replacement crew will generally grant +12 bonuses instead.

I only keep my starting crewmen long enough to finish their quests, then I cycle them out for crewmen with better bonuses. :)

Though it's worth mentioning that there is an achievement for finishing the game with the "terrible starting" crewmen. :P

Well, in that case, is there actually a way to check your stats? Since that's actually the crew bonus?

WOW! Good tip. Maybe the tutorial explained that and I missed it. I was genuinely irked not seeing my stats.
