Just verifies and does nothing on Catalina

I just updated my OS to Catalina, now when I press the play button all that happens (other than general computer slowness) is a small system window appears saying:

Verifying "Divinity - Original Sin 2"...

and when that finishes nothing happens.

I have the same problem for Civ 6, oddly. Does anyone know how to fix this?

More info:
It does stay in the dock, but unresponsive. Also it never makes it to choices in the Command-Tab list of apps.

Oh wow it just loaded. That was incredibly long. And the second attempt.

Maybe its because I took out the graphics settings file, temp folder, and Level Cache folder?

Or maybe it just needed a really long time.
