Epic Games Discussion Mega Thread

Hi everyone! There have been many posts about Epic Games exclusivity over the last year. I know that people are passionate about this topic, and this has led to a lot of heated discussions, which has made it difficult to moderate. At the suggestion of user meraco, I'm creating this mega thread for people to continue the discussion if they so wish.

Before you start commenting, there are a few ground rules I'd like to establish here:

Be respectful. I mean it! Many people have clashing opinions, but there are ways to disagree in a non-aggressive manner. Being disrespectful to other users here will result in an immediate ban without warning.
No baiting or antagonizing other users.
Keep comments relevant to Industries of Titan. This is not the place to make general complaints about the Epic Games Store.
I would love for this to be a low effort thread. If moderators have to delete too many comments or warn too many people, I reserve the right to lock this thread.

With that out of the way, please feel free to ask us any questions. I know that this is a contentious topic, but we are more than happy to have an open discussion.

We care a lot, and doing a year of exclusivity on Epic was not a decision we made lightly. I'm not going to lie to you that it wasn't about the money, because money was definitely a factor. However, the funds we've gotten from this year of exclusivity have not only allowed us to expand our scope and hire new team members (like our amazing producer, writers, and VFX artist), but it has allowed us to work on this passion project of ours without crunch and with way less stress. It's also helped set us up to make more awesome games in the future!

This isn't about "selling out" - this is about being able to develop a game we are truly proud of while keeping our team happy and healthy.

My hope is that you'll be able to see how much work we've put into the game over the last year. We plan to work just as hard now that we're on Steam, and we hope that you'll join us in our Early Access journey :)

One reason why Epic Store should die: Fascism

Reviews are optional last time I checked. So, devs can silence you.

For trying to normalize something like that, I will never buy from their store. You know. It's first a bit. Then it gets bad, and then worse. And when you think it couldn't the worst. It just does that!

I would gladly support the devs and buy from a store where the devs get more money. But where I come from, fascism got a Wanted Dead or Alive on it.

Devs make the games, we buy them, we are the very life-blood of this industry, as without us, there would be no industry, just some ancient baby boomer investors, who don't give a flying toss about some low level indie dev's "innovation".

Epic Games gave Valve an ultimatum a few weeks ago. They said that if Steam reduced the shares for all game devs, then Epic would quit doing exclusives.

Seems so far Valve didn't give an answer. I wonder why.

In one hand, reducing the shares is good. Devs will get more money, so, make more and (sort of)
better games. But, even with the current standard shares, we got soooo many trash games it's just sad. Yes, Valve could, and eventually will make a better search function. But, having so many games on the market already, isn't it a stupid idea to make it even easier than it already is for devs to release yet another crap pile of a game?!

I mean we are talking about Valve here. The lord himself, GabeN. I'm sure he would also want everybody to make their dream games. The only problem is. And we, and Valve knows that for quite some time know. That's it' not that simple to make a game... not even with an engine that is given to you for free... otherwise Half-Life 3 would have been released already some time ago. And Artifact wouldn't have burned down like gasoline either.

The whole idea of being an "indie" is to be your own publisher. And many are. So they get the full sum after Valve took its.

Devs can opt out of sales on Steam too... That is and has always been their choice

Has there ever been a recorded moment in all of Steam's history, where many devs pulled out almost within 2 days of a sale being held, in almost the same way it has for Epic?.

I personally do not remember such an event like that going belly up.

Users have been able to discuss the Epic deal here for over a year now, and additional comments are not contributing anything new.

You'll notice in other threads we have listened, responded and shared our perspective with others very openly. This is not a matter of dealing with criticism, but a matter of keeping the peace at this point.

Since it's such a hot topic. Why not consolidate them all in a pinned Topic " Epic Discussion "

And this way if a new post comes up of the same heading.. move them all to the pinned topic..

Otherwise, any reply you may have made in the past is buried and new posters will continue to start new discussions unaware that the matter has been debated, considered, replied to, and resolved.

Saying something is stupid is very different then telling someone they are stupid..

You have clearly been abusing mod to silence the criticism.. You have been on epic for how long and the game is still incredibly bare bones. Again do what you gotta do, I won't be purchasing and I have reported you to let steam take a look at the silencing. It is their platform they can judge.

There is a difference between criticism and being outright rude.

I have to ask, since you guys took on two Epic deals, does this mean your eventual next game is also going to go EGS exclusive?.

I know it's not something to think of now, when you've got these two games coming out, but honestly, it's not something too farfetched to say yes or no to. I'd just like to know, because I have a 3 strike system when it comes to EGS exclusives per studio/publisher.

As you've said, we're developing two games at once right now, so it'll be some time before we work on another. There are a lot of factors to consider, and who's to say Epic will continue to make deals by that time?

All cards on the table though, Epic has been really pleasant to work with, and we believe that Industries of Titan (and our team) has grown positively over the last year as a result, so if they wish to extend us another opportunity in the future, it's possible.

If that's not something you're okay with, then we understand, and we thank you for your support up until now!
