Went into this expecting a game similar to a co-op half life but got a survival game with a linear story. And while that wasn't what I was expected going in (my friend told me to buy it blind), I still thoroughly enjoyed my time playing! The game is still under development and as such the full story/end of the game isn't in yet, but I still felt pretty "complete" by what I played.

If I did have one thing to critique, a lot of the progression kinda boils down to grinding out specific materials or trading for specific materials, or finding a specific materials to get the idea for a blueprint. Which can kinda grind the game to a halt if you and your friends just happened to miss a key critical ingredient. I often found the progression that was made just through natural exploration to be the most rewarding.

But with that said, the game still has a lot of really cool areas to explore, a lot of fun little gadgets and weapons to mess with. I actually really like the building in the game and find making a base out of random office supplies and whatever other oddities we find in portal worlds to be really neat.

Absolute contender for my GOTY for 2024. Everything about this game is awesome and I try to recommend to it to friends at every possible chance.

Abiotic Factor is a survival resource-gathering experience set in a mysterious sci-fi facility. I’ve played this game both solo and with friends, and it’s enjoyable in both modes, though the experience differs significantly.
In multiplayer, the facility becomes a formidable challenge, and teamwork is essential. Players naturally fall into roles—building, combat, medical, cooking, or a mix—each contributing to survival. The shared sense of danger and discovery makes multiplayer especially rewarding.
In solo play, which is where I’ve spent most of my time, the experience takes on a more intense and personal tone. Wandering the eerie, silent facility alone, accompanied only by the occasional screams and ground tremors, is both unsettling and thrilling. Surviving solo requires mastering every aspect of the game: cooking, fighting, and building without support. It’s a significant challenge, but one I’ve thoroughly enjoyed overcoming.
The story adds another layer of intrigue. Lore is accessible once collected, making it easy to revisit and piece together the mysteries of the facility. The backgrounds of the various specimens are fascinating, and I’ve spent much time simply reading about them. This attention to detail in the narrative keeps me engaged and eager to explore further.
Gameplay mechanics are well-designed and satisfying. Weapons feel impactful, armor is thoughtfully crafted, and the crafting system is robust. My only minor complaint is the inability to scrap certain items that seem like they should provide resources. While this can be frustrating, it doesn’t significantly detract from the overall experience. The sound design and music are standout features, enhancing the eerie, mysterious atmosphere of the game. Together, they create an immersive environment that keeps me hooked for hours at a time.
While Abiotic Factor is fun solo, it truly shines with friends. The cooperative elements and shared discovery make multiplayer the ideal way to experience the game. Despite being in early access, I’ve done multiple playthroughs and always find myself coming back. I’m eagerly awaiting the full release and will likely start a fresh playthrough when it’s available.

This game is one of my favorite. this game deserves more attention

I like the vibe of this game, and right now, I’m still progressing through the story. However, what I dislike the most about this game is the concept of the monster called Leyak. This monster disrupts my progress. I’m slowly building my base, and it suddenly spawns very close by because my base is quite small. It spawns right behind me, and it feels like an instant kill. I can’t escape once it grabs me.

The concept of Leyak should be limited to certain areas and not disturb the player's comfort in other zones. Because of Leyak, I now craft everything very cautiously and constantly look around. I hope the developers adjust Leyak’s behavior in the future.

I never thought I needed a Half Life inspired survival game, with the sense of humour of Gary's mod and a healthy dose of surrealist SCP horror... But Abiotic Factor proved me wrong.

I played it solo and found the entire experience a joy. Progress was steady throughout, and it transitions seemlessly from exploration, to combat and the occasional dose of horror to keep you on your toes.

The first few hours are a bit bumpy, and I'd say the game doesn't do a great job of helping you learn what to do in those early hours. But once you find your feet, I think what you'll find is one of the most interesting games in the survival space on the market today.

Solo start to finish of the content available today was about 45~ hours. Probably another 10-15 if I wanted to continue getting the best equipment and finding all the secrets. I'd be fascinated to see what this was like in a multiplayer environment.
