My save just reset for no reason

I was looking forward to replaying this game but those expectations and emotions went to hell when after a couple of hours of playing, the game reset. I saved my game, obviously, and I still have several of my items but for some reason I'm not even there after the helicopter scene at the beginning.

you can continue from the beginning with all your items and level after failing the cases or dying. you probably hit that by accident.

If you fail the cases, you can either load your previous save, losing your current progress to where you last saved, Continue and use the remaining time to save survivors or save your status and quit so that it can be used for a new game with your level and stats, losing all current progress back to 0.
