For who is experiencing heavy stuttering in combat
Hello,

I think I found a workaround for the heavy stuttering I was getting ONLY in combat situations.

The problem was related to an audio file, 14_RedAlert.ogg , which is the combat music that starts.. in combat xD

So, I first tried to delete or rename this file, but I was getting some stuttering again.

What I did, was to download a mp3 music file, rename it to 14_RedAlert.ogg ,replace the original file and.. stuttering gone.

I also disabled the two turrets options in game settings (legacy and smooth turrets)

I hope it could be of help
(sry for my bad english!)

Wow, this completely fixed my problem.

I replaced that 14_RedAlert.ogg file just like you said with a 1 minute long silent mp3 file(renamed it to .ogg like you instructed). Anyone can find them fast with search engine.

Thanks a ton, this even fixed the strange lag the game was having with Steam overlay for me. I have no clue why this worked, but it did lol.

I stopped playing this game because of that damned stuttering problem. A year later I get a gtx 2070 and it still stutters. It's pretty ridiculous that the problem is an audio file.

Can you link where you found the silent file? Please

this is what I came up with

My pc broke (not literally) but I was in an asteroid field that looked like giant snow flakes. Apparently I fired off my special ability in order to kill some ships and all the asteriouds blew up as well. Too much loot to carry and too many polygons to render. 5fps was fun though, I never see that anymore :p

This is obviously a bug in the sound file or some kind of incompatibility of the Windows 10 ogg-decoder. I just re-encoded the audio file with VLC:

1) open VLC --> Media --> convert/save (CTRL+R)
2) search for the 14_RedAlert.ogg in the Game Folder and add it
Steam\steamapps\common\Starpoint Gemini Warlords\Data\Sound\Music
3) press convert/save
4) choose the Audio Vorbis (OGG) profile and press the small wrench for detailed settings
5) in the audio codec tab press keep original audio track --> save
6) back in the convert-dialog choose a proper location for the audio file and hit start
7) replace the newly encoded with the old one

So we now have a re-encoded audio file that causes no frame drops in battles and we still can enjoy the original music.

I don't know why the devs don't fix that problem. It is that easy to fix!! A lot of people expecting this problem.

My specs: RYZEN 3700, 32GB, RADEON RX 5700 XT

P.S: And yes, my game file were proper and my graphic driver is up to date...

omg thank you so much. i always thought its the mods i use that caused the problem but no it was indeed that silly ogg file. thank you so much for making this game enjoyable again! And really it is a shame that the devs don´t care.

Thank you! Same issue today and VLC fixed it! 2080 Super stuttering to 5fps or less during heavy combat; crazy!

Devs; 5 minute fix.... Get with it!

Wow, what a find... to think it was a music file... Game runs perfect now
Cabalius 26 Nov, 2022 @ 5:36am
Sorry to necro this thread. It's a shame that this method no longer fixes the issue. The heavy stuttering is the only thing preventing me from enjoying this game. I am at a loss trying to figure out how to fix it. No mods, clean install, removing the sounds all together, replacing them as stated here. Even turning the music off and sound in full, alas... Nothing.

It's disappointing.
