I will always remember to appreciate Faris NyanNyan for making Akihabara the epicenter of otaku culture. Maid cafés! Cosplay! Moe! But don't get the wrong idea, i-it's not like I enjoyed this VN or anything okay?! Anta baka janai no?!

An awesome visual novel about a mad scientist and time travel. This was the first visual novel I played that wasn't super focused in the detective/mystery genre, so it really did feel long as the writing includes a lot of trivial chatter and side conversations-- but it was still great nonetheless as it added to the characters personalities. Never watched the anime and I went into the game blind, it made me cry 4 times I think. The main character, Okabe, is a real likable character to me, but he definitely does make frustrating decisions throughout the novel at times. Your choices are done through the emails Okabe sends and it's pretty limited. I honestly just recommend looking up a guide as the True Ending is done in a very specific way, it's pure luck if you somehow get that ending without searching for help. The alternative endings are pretty easy to achieve because of the skip function, so you don't need to worry about spending too much time completely redoing a chapter. All in all, Steins;Gate was something really amazing and I'm glad that I didn't watch the show first.

The anime has an excellent English Dub. This VN, sadly, only has subtitles.

But also, quite disappointing.

STEINS;GATE is a very interesting game, as it is the second game in the Science Adventure series, which in my opinion, came off to a terrible start with Chaos;Head. Despite that, I can say with confidence after doing every ending and getting every achievement, that STEINS;GATE is a masterpiece that outshines Chaos;Head in every way. Which is a shock coming off the heels of Chaos; Head.

The game takes it's time setting up all it's plot points, but the characters are so earnestly written, that it never becomes boring to see this set-up unfold. Many say that the first half of this game is "too slow" or "boring", but they fail to understand that it is essential to have these slow moments so that the second half can be as emotionally impactful as it is. Every character is fleshed out, and every plot point is carefully considered throughout so that things can make the most sense when everything concludes. The sheer amount of themes and concepts this game is able to tackle without tripping over itself is astounding in it of itself. From overcoming hardship to accepting tragedy, each theme is tackled with the amount of nuance it deserves.

The best thing about this game, is that you almost can't predict where it goes. It has so many twists and turns, but ones that feel earned and that make sense within the context of the story it's trying to tell. I wish I could talk about them, but I don't want to spoil any of them, the shock of the experience is what makes it so great. I have literally nothing negative to say. This isn't a even review at this point, this is just glazing. You owe it to yourself to read through this one if you love story based games.
