Just got the game today, first visual novel for me. But now that I'm an expert on the subject, a huge fan and finally one of the cool kids I don't see the point in playing chapter 2 :P

This is a problem with many games. There are practically no games where the % for the "beat the game" achievement is over 40%. Most don't even get that high. If you look at the Walking Dead Definitive Edition achievements, only 38% of players complete Season 1. All achievements for the other seasons are lower than that.

Keep in mind these statistics don't even count the people who bought the game and never played it. Players don't count towards the % unless they've at least launched the game.

I use Walking Dead as an example because while I 100% Steins;Gate, I know that your average gamer can't be arsed to read that much and Walking Dead all the dialogue is voiced in English. Probably get lots of people who buy the game based on praise and then go "Oh no! I have to read!".

But even with action oriented games, you'd be surprised how many games can't even get up to 80% on the first achievement you're guaranteed to unlock.

Just finished chapter 1, mystery and translation are good, MC and most of the characters are unsufferable.

For me, i bought it because i absolutely LOVED the anime . But turns out, VNs are not something i enjoy apparently (same reason why i couldn't finish DDLC either). I pushed myself so hard, but i just couldn't do it. 😕

Not to mention, reading things on computer screen gives me massive headaches for some reason. Mobile is fine, books are perfection, but the moment I have to read stuff more than a certain amount of time on desktop? I'll end up with 2-3 days worth of headache. 😖

I wear prescription lens actually for myopia, and they have the blue light filter. So I'm covered on that front. 😅

I just try to keep my readings limited to the phone screen instead of the monitor now. I do intend to finish the series eventually though, just need a plan that will ensure i don't get bored or end up with the headaches ಥ⁠‿⁠ಥ

I use a desktop app to reduce the blue light (called iris), don't know if glasses work better but the app was free

Probably because it's actually a very childish and stupid VN.
- Weak and unrelasitic proposition of time travel mechanics, even for a sci-fi plot.
- All the female characters seem to be in love with the main character. Excesive romance and lewdness doesn't belong to a sci-fi story, it ruined it.
- Lots of plot holes (for example, why main character has "reading steiner" is never explained)

I forced myself to play through the entire thing and get the true ending before judging, just to find I wasted +30 hours of my life reading a childish story written for weabos who spend all their day in discord servers and reddit (or 4chan back then).

I totally understand people who drop it in the early chapters.

I would counter that it's not the quality of the product but rather the people in general, regardless of quality won't usually bother finishing their games. They tend to play as long as they feel like they got their fill from the game.

And since this is Visual Novel, one that's very subtle on the mechanics that are used to direct the flow of the story to boot, there are bunch of people who clock off early and don't bother finishing the game because they feel they got good idea of what the game is regardless of the story. That's why Ubisoft/Bethesda games are selling well because this kind of gamer (a overwhelming majority I might add) can feel they've accomplished something even if they just play 10 hours and get to finish only 2-3 side quests.

Since this is a novel though, majority of these people just put the game down thinking it's a waste of time since all you do is click and read and never bother to pick up again. Only people who bother finishing the it are completionists and those who enjoy reading novels, since it is, you know, a Visual Novel.

I was for a good while in that first category of people who didn't even get trough the prologue but since I gave it a new change I am tremendously enjoying my time with it. It feels validating that the developers have done so much research on topics like science and computers to someone like me who has broad scope of things they're interested about.

It started off with an element of mystery to it that I was able to enjoy, but I'm not enjoying the MC; I'm suffering through him, and the idiot ball decisions he makes just to make the plot continue. Once I got to where he's telling the text happy girl that he did find the PC and invited her over to see it in Chapter 3, I stopped playing for the evening and just couldn't bring myself to go back to see how this would predictably lead to something terrible.

unfortunately this game is kinda boring for the first 5 chapters. Which is a turn off. The payoff is amazing, but like with the anime people will drop it before then.

I played this game from start to true end before acquiring it on Steam. Give me 15 years and I'll do a full replay and join the stats you care so much about.
