What is the actual status of Mac compatibility of this game?

The Steam store page has the "not compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina or above" warning, so it doesn't appear that it would work on my 12.0.1 Monterey system (27" iMac, 2020). However, the version of the game on the Mac App Store says that it actually requires 11.0 or later - but I can't play that version either, since it furthermore requires the M1 chip (mine is one of the last of the Intel-based Macs). Am I really stuck in the middle, with no way to play this game?
