Outfits in cargo I don't want to sell
Does anyone else think it would be useful, and if so, possible to flag outfits in cargo as "DO NOT SELL?" I imagine I'm not the only one that has accidentally sold off a jump drive or some other pillaged piece of tech that I'm carrying back to parked ships in order to improve them, only to inadvertently sell them in the Trade screen. Or, at times I want to uninstall a specific outfit, i.e. scanner, to make room for a different piece of tech for a specific mission, and don't want to store it and have to drive all the back for it, neither do I want to sell it and have to repurchase it. I would like to keep it in cargo in order to reinstall later, but don't want to risk accidentally selling it. Or more often for me, "That will be handy on the next (insert ship type that I'm hoping to capture) for outfitting to the configuration I like, but this outfit isn't offered just anywhere and again, I don't want to drive across the galaxy with my new prize to outfit it. If the parts are in cargo, I can outfit at the nearest available.

As the captain, I should be able to tell the crew when we drop anchor, the items in this cargo hold are off limits. Sell off anything else to fund your debauchery, but if you touch anything in here, I'll space your sorry hide.

I assume by accidentally selling stuff you mean the 'sell outfits' on the trade screen? This does offer selling trade goods and outfits separately so the only situation I see where this would be relevant is if you have both outfits in your cargo that you want to keep and outfits that you would like to sell. I guess in this case you have to go to the outfitter and sell the outfits are meant to be sold manually. Alternatively you could use the trade screen to sell all outfits and then go to the outfitter and buy back the ones you want to keep.

Yeah that's basically it. After a few encounters and mission runs, I'll notice I have a mess load of outfits in cargo, so I'll clear them out only to realize the next time I go to outfit a new ship that I remember I had an outfit I had been carrying around for that modification. It's purely my fault for not looking through the outfits before I sell them off, but it would be nice to be able to store an outfit on the ship in a separate locker that doesn't sell.

You could just store it at some outfitter instead of carrying it around with you.

shouldn't be hard to implement; a secondary "captain's hold" seems the easiest way, else there'd need to be another variable defined for each outfit, secured or locked or whatever; make it small, only to house weapons/ammo you're using. the outfits you carry to equip new vessels you acquire with, etc. this would also come with limitations since you don't want to manage it to prevent accidental selling, so maybe secured storage consumes more space...

might be more fun to implement a way for a high-cargo ship to be for solely you / your fleet and never considered as part of the standard outfit supply, nor it's cargo / bunk space counted, only things / crewmen specifically placed on that ship get on that ship, and vice versa. then you have to keep it alive and intact, too. but give it some bonus, like your fleet could restock crewmen and expendables from it when you land on any planet, even uninhabited ones, without an outfitter. or something. just spitballing here, but I could see that as a mod.

on the other hand, reading isn't that difficult, nor is not selling off what you intended to keep, either. :-)

Yes, I generally have a central planet that I store ♥♥♥♥ at. Used to be Glaze, now I'm using Wayfarer. I wrote a program that scans the save file and tells me what is where.
It's been a long time since I sold an outfit I didn't want to sell.

You should see if you can make that program into a mod. It would be very popular.

outfits shouldn't be sellable through the trade screen, but that functionality was probably included for situations where you disowned a ship and no longer have enough cargo space to carry outfits in cargo on a planet that lacks an outfitter.

Outfits sold from the trade screen should automatically be added to the local outfitter's inventory; and if there is no outfitter then one is created (selling only those outfits you sold ofc.)

That way it's still easy to cash out pirate farming loot by double-clicking the button, but if you make a mistake you can buy the outfit back.
