I'm new here.after starting a new game , the tips tell me using the arrow keys to move ,but the guy i control doesn;t move. Is there any help?

Well since the provided map is utterly useless could someone post the directions to navigate the maze? I've found diary entrys 1 to 3 in the cave and the cat in a bottle but nothing else so far. I also have found letters 1 2 3 and 5.
