Reflecting on Our Early Access Journey: Lessons Learned and Moving Forward
Dear Osiris: New Dawn Community,

We wanted to take a moment to reflect on our journey through Early Access with Osiris: New Dawn. It's been quite the ride, filled with highs and lows, and we've learned a great deal along the way. We want to be transparent about the challenges we faced and the lessons we've learned.

Erratic Update Schedule and Development Challenges:

Throughout the EA process, our update schedule was not as consistent as we would have liked. We understand the frustration this may have caused, and we want to apologize for any inconvenience. We faced numerous obstacles during development, including major engine upgrades, data stability issues, and the demand for optimization from our players.

Transitioning from Unity 5 to Unity 2017 was a significant undertaking that required rewriting a substantial portion of the game shortly after our EA launch. We also had to address complaints about data stability, leading us to rewrite the data system multiple times. Optimizing the game proved to be another hurdle, requiring us to overhaul sections such as the creature AI. While these changes may not have been immediately noticeable to players, they were essential for laying the groundwork for future content expansions and improvements.

Communication Challenges and Lessons Learned:

Our communication with the community during Early Access was not as effective as we had hoped. We recognize that we were not as active on social media as we should have been, and we take full responsibility for this oversight. To address this issue, we enlisted the help of a publisher to handle marketing and PR tasks. However, disagreements arose over communication and marketing aspects, leading us to part ways with the publisher.

In hindsight, we realize that direct communication with our players is crucial. Moving forward, we are committed to engaging with you more frequently and openly, discussing game design and development as if you are part of the team.

Team Dynamics and Growth:

Our team experienced significant changes throughout the Early Access period. We initially started with a small team and expanded as the project progressed. However, we made the mistake of over-hiring in the early stages, which posed management challenges and forced us to rethink our team structure. We ultimately found that a smaller, more focused team worked best for us, allowing for clearer ownership of tasks and smoother development processes.

Moving Forward:

While our journey through Early Access had its fair share of challenges, we are grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow alongside our community. Osiris: New Dawn would not be where it is today without your support and feedback.

As we continue to work on the game, we are committed to applying the lessons we've learned and improving our communication and development processes. We appreciate your continued support and patience as we strive to deliver the best possible experience.

Thank you for being part of this journey with us.

Warm regards,
Fenix Fire
