Fanatical's response (so far)
I POLITELY reached out about this situation. Here is the response I was sent.

We are aware of an issue with Steam keys for Overfall, which we sold in our Origins Bundle in 2018.

We are in contact with the original publisher and developer to rectify the issue as quickly as possible, and will provide more details therein. We strongly refute any unfounded allegations around trust and can assure you that Fanatical continues to act with integrity, ensuring that all of our products are officially licensed.

We will email back with more information as soon as we have spoken with the publishers and developers.

Customer Service Team,

Also, I just read the devs Update 2 on the situation in which they say none of this is Fanatical's fault. I had an issue with another game a while back where the devs revoked access to all keys.

The reason was that they provided someone X amount of keys per an agreement. Some were distributed/sold properly, but a chunk were sold through illegal means and g2a with the devs not getting paid (i.e. breach of contract). They didn't know which ones were the illegally obtained ones, so the devs revoked them all the prevent said person from profiting further.

When they were able to get replacement keys, they provided them to those who obtained them legally (just had to show proof you bought the thing legally). Given what has been said, this seems like a SIMILAR situation just poorly worded initially by the devs. I kinda understand where they are coming from, but I still can't agree with a full blown key revocation approach. Sadly, if they did get screwed, there may have been no other way to deal with it.

from what I read in some other post, if it isn't Fanatical's fault, shouldn't they have a list of sold Keys of the unsold keys? My guess people just sold their unwanted keys on said scummy sites, and might be a false positive there. Either way, I don't have the highest opinion of their decision making since their go to was to remove legitimate keys.

"The reason was that they provided someone X amount of keys per an agreement."

This is their fault. They should only sell a mass amount of keys to reputable stores.

on the forums you can see mostly people complain who received the keys from reputable store, fanatical, so where is rest of these "illegal" key acquirers? maybe it was aimed on the fanatical in the first place, since they were first to blame for the key leak or something. since it looks like only legit buyers were affected by it.
