Do you like platformers? How about some hack and slash elements? With a cute Saturday morning vibe? Boy, do I have the game for you! The Adventure Pals is the formal commercial version of the old game on the Armor Games website.

Adventure Pals follows a 16 year old boy who's dad gets kidnapped on his birthday. What follows is a quick 6-8 hour platform adventure across the world. The script is rather goofy. I didn't find it funny, though I did occasionally grin from time to time, especially with the bad puns. It's predictable.

But we don't play TAP for the plot. We play it for the platforming. And is it great! The levels have a fairly good flow to them. And the platforming has a good sense of movement to them. Hidden within each level (and across the world map) are cupcakes (used to unlock costumes) and a sticker pack (collectibles). The combat is fairly standard and is meant to provide something to do between challenges. Each level has 5 sections, and they'll filled with platforming, super easy puzzles, and the aforementioned collectibles. There are items available for use such as the healing potions and bombs.

The game has some lite dodging and some challenge moments (another enemy that makes things harder by healing or shielding opponents). However, it never gets more complex than pushing the opposite direction to dodge an attack or dropping a bomb.

I found this game to be a breezy and enjoyable break from my current list of games. I beat it playing casually for the past week. None of the challenges were particularly taxing, though there was a bug I encountered that it wouldn't advance despite me beating the enemies. Anyway, the game is a great palette cleanser between games. It's a shame that there isn't a sequel in the works because this could be a very pleasant series of games.

Great little game, I really enjoyed it and got 25 hours of fun out of it.
