to be clear, when you say you click play and nothing happens you are referring to clicking play in the Steam Library? And the game launcher with the options for "Start Game", "Readme", "Portrait Editor", and such doesn't come up?

Or are you able to see the launcher and click "Start Game" and nothing happens?

The Launcher does not come up at all. I have also tried starting the .exe manually in the game folder and same thing, nothing comes up.

Hmm....I don't know. I use Windows 10, so I don't know what issues Win11 may cause.

I was going to suggest starting from the game files .exe, but you've already tried that as well.

My guess is some sort of compatibility issue, which you already know. As I said, I don't use Windows 11 so I just don't know what compatibility options (or administrator access?) are invovled with Windows 11.

Well thanks anyway @tvance52, I appreciate the try to help. Sadly I just had to refund and give up on this for now until some fix gets discovered or what not. A bit sad because I really wanted to play this version of the game the most, but eh, not much I can do now. Thanks again for trying to help.

You might try online searches for games not starting with Windows 11 in general, there might be something common with across older games with Windows 11.

I see in some searches that for some games people had to manually install the correct DirectX version. That is after they tried compatibility mode and administrator rights fixes.

You probably made the best move in getting a refund, sadly.

Hmm, maybe sometime I'll try again and install the proper DirectX version. I did try to do that, I found a post somewhere on here that even linked to the proper version (I think) based on someone trying to get this very game to work and couldn't. I don't know if I grabbed and installed the right one though, I'd probably have to manually find the one and download and install it that way, eh? Hmm. I dunno. On one hand I really want to play this but on the other $30 is no joke and to refund it AGAIN might not look too great to Steam. But do you think this would be a 'guaranteed' fix possibly, if I find the proper DirectX and install it? What say you sir? And thanks again for all the help, I appreciate it!

i doubt it is the issue. The only game that manually updating DirectX worked for me was Warhammer40K: Dawn of War Soulstorm, which for some reason steam wasn't installing the proper DirectX version. DoW vanilla released in 2004 and the Soulstorm expansion in 2008, so compatibility is not a surprise considering it was designed for a 32-bit operating system.

But in that case there were a number of people commenting on the issue with DirectX and giving steps to download the proper version (this was a couple of years ago, I haven't needed to reinstall in the past 3 or 4 years).

I think it's more likely a Windows 11 thing, as I've read some older games have compatibility issues. But since I'm not a Win11 user, I don't have firsthand experience.

I don't know how often Steam will allow you to buy and refund the same game, so I honestly wouldn't risk it. You might ask somewhere like reddit if they know a solution, I don't do reddit but their Nobunaga's Ambition page may have more views and responses then this one. I don't do Discord, but maybe there's an appropriate forum there as well? I don't know.

What is your computers specs? Did you upgrade your graphic drivers?

Hey @Nox! Yes I am using the latest drivers from Geforce Experience. Specs are AMD Ryzen 9 something CPU (very fast one) and Nvidia 4090 GPU, 64 GB RAM and the game is installed on an SSD (and when I tried to reinstall the game to a different drive it was also on an SSD.) Hope that helps.
