How does the faction work in this game? Is there only a single faction? What diffrence does your commander unit make? (From a SC2 and FAF Background myself)

There is only one faction in the game. There are mods that add additional factions.

Is there one universally excepted by the community? like FAF is for Forged Alliance, or not really?

competitive games are just the base faction for the most part. it is common to see the other 2 main factions(legion and bugs) hosted and played with in team games
