Very low framerate on Linux
I've just finished the game on an i7-4970 with an AMD Radon RX 580 and I was surprised at the very low framerate. Normally the frame rate is at about 30, peaking in some areas in the low 40s. Is this normal?

I'm using mesa 19.0.8 on Fedora 30.

I had the same problem. Try to Verify Integrity of Game Files and update drivers, it fixed for me.

Update drivers? Is this some sort of closed nvidia driver joke, that I'm too AMD to understand?

Just tried fiddling with the settings. It appears the frame rate isn't affected by any of the quality settings. I tried turning everything off/to the lowest setting and the frame rate was unaffected. Looks like it's CPU bound.

its Dev Coded to 30 fps - 60 fps max...Cinema etc was and still is 28 fps :) ... no need for 90 - 280 fps this Beta.

If it is capped at 60, then I would expect my setup to hit 60 consistently. There's no need for anything larger than the screen framerate in non-competitive games.

You're aware that AMD GPUs have drivers, too?

Yes and I am also aware that the free drivers are better than AMD's drivers in terms of performance and that the drivers are updated as part of the normal update cycle. Updating drivers is not really something you do actively, if they are built into the operating system.

People do update their Mesa drivers actively as well when needed. I don't know how Fedora is handling this, but e.g. on Debian this is supported.

No real point since Fedora is pretty much always update to the latest version. Usually it's maybe one minor release behind.

Fedora got Mesa 19.0.8, Proton states: "DirectX 11 games: For best results, use the suggestions on the DXVK driver support page. You will need NVIDIA 418.49.04 or Mesa 19.1-git at a minimum."[github.com] Draw you own conclusions.

I'm running Mesa 19.2.0 on fedora 31. Why would I care about Proton, when this game runs a native Linux binary?

Ouch, sorry for the Proton part. We can still draw the conclusion that a minor version number change can make a big difference, though.
I got Fedora 30 from your OP and my googling that Fedora 31 is not yet released.

Do you still have the same problems with the game Fedora 31?

Dunno. I've got everything I want from the game, so I haven't played it since I made the original post. Fedora 31 is in beta which usually means it's pretty solid (I've never had any issues with beta versions). Just for the sake of figuring out if it's still a problem, I'll have one more go at the game.

I fear I wouldn't have good hints here, though. :-/
It worked well for me (so I didn't find the game too great) on Nvidia/Debian.

Same problem. Doesn't really matter really. The game doesn't depend on having super high framerate, and at 40 fps, the game is still enjoyable. I wonder if there's some glsl extension that might not be available, that's causing the problem.
