Report a translation problem
you have to report her to her boss to be able to use it as evidence.
Nope. I didn't report her and was still able to use this evidence at the trial. Plus I had no bug at that trial, the game registered the evidence as the right answer, so it's very strange...
e: I looked up both a walkthrough & video lp where they made the same choice as me (to not report the maid for stealing) and it worked fine in both cases. Totally a bug.
It was on chapter 3, it happened in the catacombs, where you're supposed to show why you think there was no light in the street. I showed the glass but nope. I went to the end of 4-C to then retry and finally it worked when I got back to the catacomb trial through the "start from a previous day" thing :')
