Fallout

Fallout

Almost every game that has tried to be like Fallout 1/2 has been garbage
You know when you scroll down and look for 'more games like this'? I've tried at least half a dozen of fallout style games in the last 5 years. All crap, every single one of them. You'd think that someone could take the same basic formula and come up with something cool.

I'm not exempting the first two Fallout games from criticism either. Those who have played them know they all certainly have their flaws, but I will say they have held up quite well since the 90s. I just recently ran through both 1 and 2 again and no, it's not just nostalgia, even considering the flaws. I just can't understand why other newer games in the same style can't seem to get it right.

Arcanum is pretty good. Very comfy first half, but the second half drops off quite a bit. Underrail is also good, but the encounters can be difficult, and there's an emphasis on having a good character build. Can't think of any others I would recommend, atm. Mostly because I can't remember what I've played.

Age of Decadence and Spaceship Colony are both decent. Heavily inspired by original Fallout, too. Since identity already mentioned Arcanum, I will recommend another banger from Troika, VTMB (in all its early-build Source engine glory). Otherwise, right there with you, newer stuff just can't hack it.

Arcanum is pretty broken and half baked, Seem like no one have said to the dev to make one thing that work well instead of 100 thing that barely work.

Lets not forget this gem, the only other game outside of the Fallout series to use SPECIAL.

What do you mean when you say ''more games like this'' ? There are rpg's that play like Fallout 1 and 2 but they don't have the same setting. Wasteland 2 and ATOM are similar but different too. Lol.

I couldn't get in to Wasteland 2, but I played 3 and it was pretty good despite the wackiness of the setting. It's not really like Fallout, gameplay wise, but it does have some similarities.

That's because Fall Out is based on Wasteland.

There's a game called City of Chains, made in RPG maker, that also has some similar post apocaliptic tones. I've yet to play it.
