🧭 My Experience

Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition feels more like an expansion to the first game than a true sequel. It keeps the same tropical setting, melee-focused combat, and RPG progression, but doesn’t really change or improve much.

I had fun slashing through hordes of zombies again, especially in co-op, but after a while it felt like I was just playing more of Dead Island 1 with minor tweaks. That said, if you loved the first one, this is basically “more of the same” — which can be either a good or bad thing depending on what you’re looking for.

💎 What I Enjoyed

Same satisfying melee combat – Smashing zombies is still fun.

Co-op mode – Best part of the experience, chaotic with friends.

Tropical environments – New areas to explore, same atmosphere.

Carry over characters – Nice continuation if you played the first.

Improved visuals – The Definitive Edition makes it look cleaner.

⚠️ What I Didn’t Like

Very similar to the first game – Feels more like DLC than a new game.

Repetitive gameplay loop – Missions quickly get predictable.

Story is forgettable – Doesn’t add much to the overall experience.

Still buggy at times – Technical issues haven’t fully disappeared.

🏁 Conclusion

Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition is basically a continuation of Dead Island. It doesn’t reinvent anything, but it offers more zombie-slaying in paradise with the same mix of fun, jank, and repetition. If you enjoyed the first game and just want more of that, you’ll likely have a good time.

Played and finished this when it originally released. Felt like dead island 1 just with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ boats instead of cars.

Still feels the same now. Worth playing if you want to see the continuation of the story and can endure some boring sections. Wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks for it though.
