Agreed on accidentally clicking on it. That's been a common gripe among players for many years.
They could easily solve it by just giving it a popup confirmation box after clicking it.
That way you can just click cancel instead of confirm and no harm done.

Locks etc would work but just adds unnecessary complexity. A simple confirmation popup is all that's really needed.
I wouldn't complain about either implementation though.

Another simple solution is that the auto group button should only affect things currently in the "ungrouped" category.
If something is already in a category, no matter if it be a custom category or moved into a default category already, then the autogroup button should have zero impact IMO.

I would prefer this along with a confirmation box for the auto group button personally.
