I want to build a rudimentary base for protection from the elements, a place to store my items, and a place to respawn. I noticed that I can build concrete blocks and wood blocks from the constructor, as well as steel blocks. Does it matter which ones I choose to build my base from? Can I mix and match materials?
If I die while I'm building a base, will all of the materials that I stored in the portable constructor persist? It seemed like the easiest way to store items for now, and it doesn't seem like it's going to go anywhere, so am I safe in using the portable constructor as a storage locker of sorts for the time being?
How do I respawn at my base if I die?
And also, what is the difference between building a base block by block versus using a blueprint in the factory? The latter seems like it would be easier - just feed it the requisite materials and it spits out the base pre-assembled, right?
Seems like I just need a beginners tutorial on all this stuff
To place it, put it into your Hotbar and place it using left click.
To respawn at your base, build a Clone Chamber. After this is built, press "P" for your control panel and in the "Main" Tab, you will see on the left "Set as Home" or something along those lines. This means the Base you built will automatically tag you to the Clone Chamber, so if you die, you have the option to spawn back there.
Yes.
Build the survival tool thingy.
Collect plants, they are your source of food and leveling. Collect resources that present themselves opportunistically.
Follow a circular search pattern to find the wreckage, not small wreckage, but those are good for some stuff.
Level, by picking plants, to where you can build a heater/cooler thingy.
Find that wreckage!
Use the chainsaw to clear ancient, biodiverse forests to make biofuel and use the drone to mine the deposits over night. You'll have all the resources you need around the wreckage. Note, the heater/AC might be needed.
Do not engage critters at any time. If you have a motorcycle, it is for escape. Do not build a base yet.
Skip some steps...
Build a base.
Collect cobalt and promethium in radiation zones, shoot golems, and pick those plants!
I built an ore scanner, but nothing blue is showing up beneath me...
And what does the detector do?
The Ore Scanner is new for me, but it is used when you are next to a deposit that is under the ground while using a Drill (T1 or T2).
You will see on your HUD (when nearby) or on the map (any range) for what is designated as an Ore Deposit. After you discover them.
It will appear as these examples:
"Iron Ore Deposit"
"Promethium Deposit"
And you will see the size and the amount of ore left, this will be designated by the Detector.
The Detector has a 1000 meter range to help you find ores around you. This is quite useful. You do not need to keep this in your Hotbar to make this tool work. As long as the tool is on your person, it will work. You'll know when it's working because the mini-map on the top right of your screen will have red circles to indicate a direction of the nearest Ore Deposits once within 1000 meters.
The ore scanner has its own functions up close.
The detector scans for drillable ores around you.
Underground rocks. For the rocks on the surface, just set your drill to rock mining (right click). It's 10 clicks for the survival tool and 3 for the biofuel drill. Your priority should still be plants though. Plants are how you level in the beginning. Actually it's a balance between getting the resouces for the tools you need versus collecting resources for the tools you want. It's particularly hard on experienced players.
Ore scanner is useless for now. More accurately, it's useless for my playstyle.
Detector is good for identifying directions of POIs (Points of Interest) like in an MMO. Just don't get shot!
