Did the castle transform? A Google search says Kelger must transform it first. A guide from a wiki said it's 6F-9F after that happens.

It transforms when you get to the third floor, so yes.

Actually you CAN learn LV 3 Flare from the Red Dragon via control. You just need to use Reflect (or Dragon Armor via Mix, which casts Protect, Shell, and Reflect on a single target) and hope that LV 3 Flare bounces to whoever's gonna learn the spell. (just as a fyi for newcomers, the spell has to actually HIT in order to be able to learn it, which means your party member needs to be of a qualifying level)


And yes, it's worth it. Plenty of tough enemies (including Exdeath himself) can be hit by the attack, and it deals a LOT of damage. (and only costs 18 MP)

Red Dragon is in a chest at Barrier Tower and appears again in the Shinryu Lair of Sealed Temple. Executor in the Island Shrine has every Level X spell in the game.

Red Dragon is actually a chest monster in Barrier Tower.

Although possible to get the LVL 3 Flare from it, this is not advised, as you can get it much easier from Executor later, and no enemy worth using it on exists between Red Dragon and Executor.
