Gatling laser and hip fire?
Do you always "hip fire"with the gatling laser, and the minigun too i guess?
So you get the slight increase of damage from that hip fire perk, even if you press the aim button? Does increased hip fire hit perks increase the hit chanse when using vats?

So you'd think, ut's not so, at least in this context, shooting "from the hip" means shooting with out aiming, so a GL would fit, since u don't have to aim a Gatling laser, how0ever there is a specific perk, that affects VATS, so you'd be better off taking that..

Then again, using a scope or VATS really defys the point of a Gattling laser, VATS is designed for "regular" guns, really, although I suppose u could use VATS with the mini gun, nvr tried..

Ah, so no automatic hip fire then, thanks.
What is this "specific perk" you mention? Is it not only perception that affects vats?
Edit: you mean the perk that increases hit chanse with each attack?

Yes that 1, the one that increases hit chance.... u can have a auto hip fire, a 10MM auto would qualify.

If u plan to use vats, then u want to increase Perception, Agility and Luck, all of those have a direct effect on VATS accuracy and shots.

Agility handles the AP you have, the more you have, the more shots u can fire with each use of VATS..

Luck handles critical hit recharge, which couples well with VATS use, and the skill that increases hit chance, pair this with a weapon with similar stats, like Righteous Authority, an ya cookin.

Finally, Perception is VATS accuracy, this is the "hit chance" of various limbs at various angles and distances.

Hope this helps, I'm not that farmiler with VATS I've never really used it...

Thanks!
There's 2 other perks, that would be handy, both increase the damage, of either non automatic weapons, or automatic weapons.

Even more if you have a perk tied to a legendary effect added to the weapon, say, explosive...

hm, worm_master, are your saying that both "heavy gunner" and "commando" increases the damage of a gatling laser?

No. Weapons only fall under a single weapon perk. The exception being explosive weapons, which benefit from both their appropriate weapon perk and the Demolition Expert perk.

Explosive in particular is extremely powerful for the minigun, but not available for the gatling laser, since the rules for generating random legendary weapons only allow Explosive on a ballistic weapon.

The minigun is practically ideal for the legendary Explosive effect, since it's a high-speed ballistic heavy weapon. The heavy weapon part is relevant because the Heavy Gunner perk's benefit is implemented by applying both a percentage bonus to normal damage, and an equal but separate bonus to explosive damage (which allows it to work properly for heavy weapons like the missile launcher, which specialize in explosive damage).
vats is vats and hip fire is hipfire, you cannot mix, it's 2 different shooting method and it's said in the perk descriptions that this one increase dmg for hipfire ( no shoulder aim ) , same for vats perks.
since you can't be both in vats and hipfire.

NO ♥♥♥♥, u cannot mix, but most think, b4 typing, it seems I was understood by every one else.

Hip fire basically means to "shoot with out aiming" and whilst a GL use's 2 hand's and is held in front to the body, u can still "fire from the hip", if more slowly coz of the weight.

Hip fire is when you don’t Aim Down Sights.

I have never been clear about whether the various listed “hip fire” bonuses do or don’t apply in VATS. This would take a very deep dive to figure out for certain.
The general case with heavy weapons is that they use the Heavy Gunner perk rather than eg Commando, Rifleman, etc. So your Commando will not be useful on eg a Gatling laser or Minigun, despite them being automatic. This is achieved by some pretty crufty logic in the perk conditionals, with some assistance from keywords applied to the weapon mods.
