Vendors are broken
I have this reoccurring glitch in fallout 4 that makes it so I can’t speak to certain vendors and barter with them. So I was curious if there is a way to force dialogue with them using a console command or smth. I don’t have any mods installed and I have the next gen update installed. Thanks

It will depend on what specific location you're at and what other factors might be contributing.

Did you ever leave ANY settler conversation or any other conversation hanging at ANY TIME recently?

That is the usual reason this might occur.

When you click on any given person, including a companion, what happens? Can you enter build mode while in a settlement and what happens if you try moving the person around?

Sometimes, particularly in Far Harbor, if you build a store of any sort too far from the workbench, this might happen but it usually is in the form of "no vendor dialog" coming up, rather than "no dialog options at all" coming up. So which of those is occurring is very important to note.

This instance was in the Nuka-Town Market. But on my last character it happened in Goodneighbor with all the vendors but the bowler hat robot in the Third Rail. Also on my old character it caused no vendors to speak or trade.

To be more specific I would click on Arturo and he would greet me but give me no further dialog options.

Would saving during dialog cause the issue to occur? I made a save when MacCready was being confronted by the gunners in the Third Rail, but I'm not sure about my current character.

Vendors will greet me as normal any normal npc but they give me no further options to access dialog.

Oh also, normal npcs and companions treat me normally. Then again it might be good to check in on Gage.

Oh so you mean non-settlement vendors? Have you angered them? If you're doing Gage ... you are no longer considered friendly to some folks in the commonwealth so if this happened after you became a raider that might be why?

No I haven’t aggravated anyone at Nuka world (other than the disciples because story stuff). My current character I’m playing as was only for completing nuka world so I haven’t really interacted with the commonwealth other than the settlements.

I’m not sure if it means anything but before the bug happened on this character I made a new settlement shop in the nuka cola red rocket.

Also do you know of any ways to force dialogue with NPCs because maybe that can solve it?

With console commands

Your better bet would be, instead of further breaking the game's already fragile code (which IS broken right now), figure out what happened to cause this in the first place.

Can you revert to an older save from before this happened? That may be the one thing that can be done that won't actively make the entire game potentially more unstable.

on the old character no, but on the one I'm using now probably.

reasons maybe many random things, it sometimes happens but it is hard to debug. need more info.

and no, there is no magical console command forcing npcs to talk. what to talk, which dialogue options will popup is depended on running scripts attached to them..

but give some more info, maybe it matches a well known bug.

which vendors?
what was the last thing happened around them?

Npcs not speaking to you in the nuka world market was a bug from a few years ago related to the unofficial patch. It got patched pretty quickly and didn't affect people for long. I'd check to see what version you're using,if ofcourse you're using it at all.

Though, ironically, one of the problems you can have in player-owned settlements is that the location itself has a keyword that influences what dialogue appears. If the location keyword is missing for a given chunk of the settlement area, vendors in that area won't work.

But, that bug obviously isn't going to account for merchants in non-player settlements like the Nuka World market.

Yeah some of the Far Harbor npcs have that problem regardless of if the settlement is modded or vanilla there. They just aren't friendly I guess.

So I was doing some testing on my current character and I still can't speak to vendors in nuka world but I can speak to my raider vendor at my settlement. Porter Gage will still trade.

I think I might be having the same glitch occurring on both characters in different ways. On my current character I can speak to Arturo and barter with him. But on my old character I cannot. I think I need to check if I can barter with dlc vendors on my old character to see if the issue is reverse.
Kooger 26 Dec, 2024 @ 4:46pm
I have come to a conclusion, It does depend on where the glitch occurs. For example it happened in the base game on my old character so I can't access any base game vendors. But I can access dlc ones. I don't really understand the settlement vendors tbh. I hope this helps.
