why cant i kill kids in fo4
so this morning i came across vault 81. i decided i was going to shoot it up so i pulled out my laser rifle and started gunning everyone down. this was pretty easy until i discovered there was a few people hiding in rooms. i realised it was the children so i started blasting them, throwing grenades at them, stabbing them and throwing molotov cocktails at them but they refused to die or even take any damage.

why have they done this? its not very realistic

Coz ya NOT meant to kill children, it may be a game, but Bsoft have standard's, u can commit any type of cide, except infanticide,, an i agree...

If you REALLY want to kill them, then using console commands will enable you to remove "essential" protection. the only trouble is ANY NPC can die, which can bugger quest's if the giver dies... That said, i'm nit sure children r covered by the "essential" marker any-way, coz u cant even knock em to their knees, like u can with others

In Cyberpunk 2077, an incredibly violent game, no kill kids. (There's even a job where kids are crossing a streetand your character has to wait for them to finish crossing before taking a passenger in severe pain to a doctor.)

Why would you even think they'd allow it in this game that's more lighthearted than CP'77?

The most likely reason you can't kill children in BGS games and many other games is the publishers don't want the hassles involved with dealing with regional blocks, local laws, or ratings organizations such as CERO, PEGI, ESRB, OFLC or any of the rest.

They have made the business calculation that profits will be higher when a game can be distributed "as-is" in as many markets as possible.

This question has been asked and answered many times on many forums.

It's not like back when Fallout 2 released, where killing kids in-game was not only far-removed (they were tiny little specks on the screen), but the game was relatively obscure to the media.

These days if a Fallout game lets you kill kids, it'd probably be front-page news for some evangelical prick who doesn't understand that it's just a stupid game.

So no, you wanna kill off some kids, either install a mod or use the command console. The game world will never react to your decisions, though. As far as it's concerned, the kids are immortal and always will be.

if you want to kill kids there are mods.... But you will never see a major gaming company allowing the murder of children from the player.

TBF...
You can indirectly cause the death of children and even witness the death of three of them in Baldur's Gate 3 by your active character's choices. Encourage an excessively poisonous snake to bite a child or encourage the child to do something that incites the snake to bit her, and watch her die. Let Harpies enthrall and kill another child, though they can't do enough damage to gib the child. Let/convince a changeling stab a restrained child over and over and over though it's out-of-frame. Other children deaths are elsewhere and bodies are not seen or are from children of "monstrous peoples" that the party can kill. :steamfacepalm:

you maybe can cause it but you cannot really harm them yourself.

Because allowing your game to kill kids is a guaranteed way to have it removed from stores in certain countries and that's not very good for the moneys

Also iT's NoT vErY rEalIsTiC... your character gets shot all the time, you're carrying forty different weapons and you can build a house out of 2 scrapped bathtubs but sure MUH IMMERSIONS

I love how High on Life gives you an achievement and a character comments about 'most games not letting you do that'. 🤣

This.

Also, anyone wanting to purposely kill kids in any video game, is messed up.
