Game Freezes on Exit
What the title says. Whether exiting from the world or the main menu, the game freezes while still using 13-16% CPU. and I have to end via Task Manager. I have F4SE, ENB, and many other mods installed. Anyone know a fix?

Do you have the Steam Cloud save enabled? This can create this issue at times.

I do not have cloud enabled for FO4.

Driver issue? AMD cpu?

NVIDIA GTX1070. Happens with or without O/C. The thing is, it has never done this before my most recent install. I think it has got to be something to do with mods but at this point I don't want to sift through and try to figure out which one...

Nevermind. It looks like something went wonky on that character in particular. Started a new game and issue is not present.

Great.

Don't get too happy too quickly. If you have the same behavior that I've been having, this issue will crop up again once you've been playing for a while. No idea why - may have something to do with savegame size/complexity?

Maybe. I did notice better behavior and performance when i kept my saves to 3 or 4. It could also have something to do with a long playing session

For anyone else experiencing this issue. I have found that it comes from building large settlements. I have installed the mod Build High-Expanded settlements. This mod increases both the settlement boundaries and the limit on objects. Great mod, but it will apparently let you overrun the game capacity. After my 4th or 5th 1500+ object settlement, the exit save freezes begin. I can go back and scrap one settlement and the problem goes away. Anyway, you can still keep playing if you are willing to exit to menu first and then use Task Manager to close out the game. Or, you can just save in game and then use task manager to exit. Task Manager must be set to always be on top or it will get hidden behind the stuck game window.

I also found that it corrupted my save game somehow.

Hmm. I have not experienced any issues with saved games. I do check them from time to time with ReSaver to be sure that there are no undefined elements or unattached instances lurking.

I found that I could only hope to load a save where I had modified the build limit. I also found that modifying the build limit wasn't the problem per say.. it was saving in a settlement where I had modified the build limit..

I have had that problem as well after loading a large settlement via Transfer Settlements. I am able to avoid it by leaving the cell before attempting a save or fast travel. However, even if I attempt to save in the settlement cell, the save is actually only delayed for several minutes. It does not fail altogether. Just have to hang in there long enough for it to finish. It does take long enough that it appears to have failed. But, I have tested the actual exit hang (as opposed to a save hang) enough to be sure that it is dependent on too many oversized settlements. If I only supersize a couple and do minimal builds at the rest, I can develop all settlements without developing the exit hang issue.

good to know it some how is realted to my own desire to create huge settlements mostly becaus ei like to have redundancy in my caravan network, and nothing plays as much havoc to raiders then having a caravan cross through there line of atack when atacking the cinema or other settlements!
